In America, the average minimum wage is 7-8 USD/hour. While a Venti cup of Starbucks costs around 7 USD and a Extra Value Meal at Macdonalds cost about 6 USD.

America is one of the biggest exporters in the world, thus, they can afford to sell Starbucks and Macdonalds at the price of their minimum wage.

In Singapore, almost EVERYTHING is imported. So what should we set the minimum wage to be, like 9-10 SGD? And when we finally have the minimum wage being implemented, should business owners also increase the price of their products? Those sinkies that say no, then explain who should bear the cost of raising their employees' pay?

I believe such sinkies are also expecting ginna pis who are doing simple jobs like working part-time in a mini-mart and giving out flyers to be earning 9-10 SGD an hour? While cleaners and plumbers who are doing menial jobs, earning the same as those ginna pis?

When those who used to earn peanuts for simple part-time jobs are now earning as much as those blue-collared job workers, do you think those blue-collared job workers would still want to continue doing what they are doing?

America is already a good example of how the "minimum wage" has been killing jobs. People who were once lazy to work, are now trying to find easy job that pays them as much as what the rest of the nation are earning, while those who are earning a slightly higher pay, now feels that it's unfair that they are earning as much as the rest who are doing a lot lesser work than them. People are quitting their "professional jobs" to work in jobs that are less taxing for the same pay.

So if you think that minimum wage is good? You must be retarded to think so :s13:

Even if 9-10 sgd is invalid to you,

how does $4, $3.50 min wage affect business to the point they need to increase product price a valid question? if he is only able to sell a product becus he pay his worker $3/hr, it is obvious hes business is unethical and dont even deserve a right to exist in a stable country.

So if you min wage is unfair, and can only think in the perspective of whether it is good or bad for economy, you must be retarded, too much full of **** from local education and media.

so much full of sh1t this ts lol, how can a sudden implementation of sgd$9 min wage be even a relevant discussion whether it is feasible anot, really upside down brainwashed idiot trying to be smart alec becus he saw some local policy studies by some local media institution

They also seldom eat out also, mostly cook at home.

Who says cannot? Implement minimum wage and maximum wage. maximum wage to offset minimum wage...this also reduce income gap.

Australia's min wages more generous though.

AU$18.90 per hour.

So if worked for 1 hour, a worker can buy 7 hamburgers (cost $2.50 there) and still have small change. So work 1 hour, can feed himself for 2 days.

A Sinkie working $5 an hour, can only buy 2 hamburgers for the same amount of work. Not even enough to feed himself for a day.

You are the ******* retard. If there's min wage introduced, all the cleaners rather go be baristas or serve Macdonalds than doing their lowly job of picking up after others.

A cup of coffee that costs $7-8 in Starbucks is used for materials, rental and utilities. If a worker's pay were to increase another $3-4, you bear the cost? You think Starbucks sell $8 coffee = $8 is their total revenue? You are such a ******* retard who have no idea what you are talking about

Precisely why minimum wage is bad. If a cleaner is earning 10 bucks now, and after minimum wage is introduced, the cleaner would rather quit his/her job to work in Macdonalds or give out flyers instead. Because who would want to clean toilets and floors when they can do something simpler and less dirty for the same salary. In the end, Who will takeover those Singapore's cleaner jobs after they all resigned? I certainly hope it would be those Liberals who keep screaming "UNFAIR UNFAIR".
There will still be companies that won't pay minimum wage and people who will work for the money.

Minimum wage won't be implemented in sg because there can be a potential lost of revenue

Set KPIs = defeating the purpose of minimum wage. Minimum wage means as long as you are an employee, the boss is require to pay you that MINIMUM amount by LAW.

Who says cannot? Implement minimum wage and maximum wage. maximum wage to offset minimum wage...this also reduce income gap.

Maximum wage? So if I am at Supervisor or managerial level, and I have hit the maximum wage, does it means I can go retire-mode and start to anyhow do or heckcare about my job anymore? Since there's already no point for me to work harder after I hit the ceiling of the pay scale?

That is why the country is in debt, investors are not interested to set up companies there? And the government is still very deluded that they are doing a good job maintain their economy :s13:

They are just a bunch of losers who cant make it in life, and they hope that the government can give them a ladder so that they wont lose out to others :s13: . Such people need the specific benefit in their lives, else they will forever be at the bottom of the food chain.

Implying that plumbers and electricians in Singapore provides cheap services. Not the case. Very often value for money is low, there's no regulation. Standards are non existing. Many older folks get ripped off for shoddy work.

If minimum wage is introduced, that means the law will take action against such companies. The same goes to countries which has minimum wage, it is not something that can be avoided, unless you want to mess with the law.

1. Singapore do not have as many as consumers compared to other countries, due to our smaller population.

2. Like I said in my first post, our country is dependent on imports, so everything costs more, e.g. ingredients for food, materials for manufacturing products, etc. How to set a minimum wage so that employers wont lose money? Nobody would want to set up a company to break even either.

Minimum wage will definitely not work, neither in singapore nor other parts of the world, as a matter of fact.

Its not that bad.

I change brakepads/rotors myself. Rim/tyre/stereo/headunit also change myself. Servicing i send to agent cause still under warranty.

I can do simple plumbing/electrical/mechanical work also. Bigger jobs need to call certified electrician cause of insurance. I also try to cook myself although its cheaper to just eat out even if it cost like 15dollars per meal. I fly all the time and find that many fresh food gets thrown into the bin.

That's why there's Lemon Law in Singapore, and also pro-bono lawyers who take such cases.

And lets face it, what is the percentage of revenue used for wages in retail, service sector where skills are more easily learned?
