There will always be a group in society that is exploited for the benefit of others. Even having minimum wage won't change anything.

Their notion or idea of what is fair price for their produce may be different from yours or mine.

In any case they are not starving or barely scarping by like farmers in China/India, or getting fuarked badly by the blacks like their cousins in South Africa.

The problem in Singapore is the majority are getting exploited.

Because of rental mainly, and also many other factors of course. Already labor and tax cost is depressed excessively, yet they still struggle.

How u define bare living expenses? What's the benchmark?

Is it only applied to Singaporean or can we extend this to places where we export our exploitation? We buy so much food from places like Vietnam, so much clothes from India and so many of these people are paid less than $1USD to keep cost of your goods low. Can we extend minimum price to them?

If the available market for an SME is only domestic, it makes sense to stay as an SME.

I am against minimum wages - I had replied in other posts before. Had seen it first-hand how this concept of helping became a society's bugbear - the effect will be immediate. Rising cost, failing business, a stagnating workforce, a lopsided wealth distribution...

Earning enough - TS, do you think if there is a minimum wage for cleaners or construction workers or maids - will be there be loads of Singaporeans applying to be working there?

In Singapore concept, this will only benefit this group, it's not a fair comparison to Australia or any other country. A plumber can be a well-paying and respected job in Australia, whereas a plumber in Singapore, has to deal with customers bargaining the cost of repair.
