Agree with darknight55.. rubber outsole is actually more suitable for sg weather cos of the frequent rain.. but leather outsole is definitely more atas..
The brand i mentioned, so far so good.. but they are still quite new so its not the super high end brand.. (leather outsole..guess u are looking for shoes @least $300 up?)

Haha, I don't need to be atas...I just need a pair of comfortable dress shoes as I'm wearing them almost everyday and I walk a lot...

Not sure if u've briefly read through the thread to understand the general context of discussions here (aesthetics, quality leather, use of durable construction techniques are the key discussion drivers here), as well as your own objectives/budget/design preferences..

Firstly, you might want to consider getting at least 2 pairs of shoes for rotation if you use dress shoes on a daily basis with a lot of walking. You would need to accept that regardless of price or quality, a single pair of shoes with heavy daily usage will wear down fast. The unproven wisdom is that having 2 pairs on rotation would probably yield more mileage than 2 pairs of shoes used exclusively and continuously (till the 1st pair breaks down) one pair after the other (all else equal).

Next, do think of your objective/budget/design preferences. Quite frankly Bata faux leather rubber sole dress shoes are great if comfort and budget rank high (and design preferences rank wayyyy low) on your priorities.

Thanks for the info. I'll take your advice into consideration of getting 2 pairs.

Can anyone recommend an excellent cobbler who can do complex resoling for Goodyear welted or Blake stitched shoes? I will provide the soles...which will be either Dainite, Ridgeway or Vibram Commando. Not interested in the chain stores that operate in malls. Heard there are some good cobblers around raffles place but no idea where.

I would go to ed et al. They have the best cobbler work in my opinion. But I’ve only done toe taps and topy, and not a resole.

I've done it at Ed Et Al, it was an excellent job.

My shoes are from them though, not sure if it matters.

Any recommendations for everyday use formal shoes?

Got bad experience in grip with leather soles. Please correct me if I sounds 'noob'

You can topy the front half sole to improve the grip. I offer topy-ing and shoe repair services at competitive pricing. Check out my carousell @pulloutnow for more info!

Rubber soles are better for Singapore weather.

You can bring your leather sole shoes to a cobbler to add a rubber topy too.

When adding a front half sole topy, make sure it's done properly ie not just glue any rubber piece onto the leather sole as is. Ensure that it is a thin rubber piece and that the original leather sole is sanded down so that the added piece will be flushed and in line with the original sole. Otherwise, you may feel your shoe is weird to walk in. I offer toot services at very reasonable prices, check out my carousell (@pulloutnow) for more info and reviews!

Another advantage of getting a pair of quality shoes with good year welt or Blake stich construction is that you have the option to resole and/or re-welt the soles when they are work off. The soles of cheaper and mass produced shoes are typically cemented onto the upper and tend to split "crocodile" or break. At
Although they can be repaired, they just arent as lasting. Topy-ing can extend the life of the original soles too.
