Just ordered this. Can't wait for it to arrive. Thanks Jeff.

Received it last night. Box doesn't look like the photo in the ad. The specs look the same though.

At start up there option to choose android or windows 8 GUI. Xbmc is pre-installed.

A little difficult to use the remote so I'm using a wireless mouse as well.

Installed a few add ons for xbmc but some don't videos and scripts don't work.

Most important is the spec such as latest CPU/GPU.You can choose window 8 GUI for easy navigate with your IR remote.Which add on you installed?

My personal comments (in order of my own priorities) regarding buying such android boxes. I've played with sticks, boxes and also other 'boxes'.

Box:
1. Good specs. With new boxes popping up every month, future proof yr purchase with a decently spec box. From experience, you need good hardware (CPU, RAM) to run yr apps well. I use a lot of XBMC coupled with Acestream for my matches. I think it needs good specs.

2. Wifi. Get a box with an external antenna. This box is linked to the TV. And its prob hidden in some console or behind. Thus good WiFi antennas r crucial.

3. OS. Honestly, this makes quite a bit of a difference. Cos depending on OS,the amount of effort to install apps (aka play around)is quite different
For example: MiBox which is not a typical android box. I like its design (and ports). But installing apps is a pain as it needs to be rooted. And somehow not ALL work perfectly well, without tinkering the settings.

About apps:
1. Test them out yrself. At shows like Comex, its impossible to test apps that rely on broadband. Cos most demos are cached. My suggestion is to go check out reviews online.

2. Well, if you have gotten a good box (as suggested above), the apps would not be a big problem. Cos its really up to your preference. If CloudTV sucks (similar to all China based streaming apps), go try others. There's tons. Do some research on your own.
I only use XBMC now.

Conclusion: get a good box and worry bout apps later. Despite myself using the Apple Tv2 most often, I would suggest getting a pure 'clean' Android box. Taobao & Q100 has a lot to choose from.

Hi,
Need some advice here as after reading the thread I m not sure whether xbmc is the solution to my needs.

I am looking at live tv streaming for channels like disney junior and baby tv as these are the only means of keeping my child occupied when the adults are busy. The box will be placed at my parents' place and there is fiber connection at their place so online streaming should not be an issue.

Just hope to see some advice whether xbmc is able to stream the kid channels and which box is best supported as there are quite a number on market now.

Thank you.

For live tv streaming of disney & baby tv on occasion is difficult to stream smoothly reason most live channel are running m3u8 or rtmp link therefore it need to be updated regularly by the author of the add-on.For kids channel i suggest Nextflix is the best & only at subcription of $10 per month & many choice of cartoon channel ready available from part 1-3 chapter continuesly.

I am fine with $10 per month subscription which is way cheaper that getting for st or sth but how do I go abt it? I guess i need to get the box first, any recommendation for the box? Read a few thread on xiaomi, himedia and minix but still unsure which will work best...

For nexflix you need to register first but important must have vpn along with your home broadband excess.Otherwise it may not work cuz netflix is from US.Viewqwest freedom vpn & Republic teleport easily to register other starhub,m1,singtel need 3rd party vpn.

Recommendation is depend on your likes & budget? My personal opinion is get those Quad core CPU & GPU mali 450 is the best now in the market. For the next few coming month they will be new launching sets...

Look for andriod box which have good developer support on the firmware. You can browse geekbuying or Q10 for selected model & budget. For Bpl/Champion League you can use Xbmc Navi-X for live streaming....for live shows you use youku tv xbmc apps.

I m on singtel fibre, therefore will need the vpn. I try googling, seem like for the vpn will need extra subscription, right?

Btw, is iptv and xbmc the same or they r diiferent things? Got more confused frm reading the different threads.
