According to Xiaomi's website:
"When playing videos directly from flash or external hard drive,
the Mi box supports multiple HD formats such as MKV, AVI, MP4, MOV."
... may I know if anyone here have tried RMVB too? Thanks.

(I've emailed Xiaomi Singapore Customer Service Center and their reply: "Not sure") !?!

Thank you for the confirmation.

By the way, is it possible to run 720p RMVB files
via a portable hard drive which draws power off the Mi box?
Will there be any lag?

For mini mibox (with no USB), its easy to install 3rd party apps. You do not need to root the box.

See youtube video. Basically the key thing here is to connect your mobile wirelessly to your PC or phone using a set IP address via browser. Once you have shafa market installed ,xbmc, chrome, useful explorer are avail in the market.

I'm trying to get Google Playstore to work successfully.

For the mini mibox, i have successfully rooted with KingRoot.

http://androidxda.com/download-kingroot-application

Tried installing the usual

1. Google Services Framework 4.0.4-338691.apk
2. Google Play services_3.2.25 (761454-36).apk
3. Google Account Manager_4.0.3-239410.apk

But can't work. What did i do wrong?

Some of these are system apps, it should not be installed using normal way. Normally the procedure for installing system apps is to copy the apk to the system app folder, and then change the properties to rw-r-r. Can be done by ADB or es explorer.

Under the general setting, there is this system location setting, is this setting important? As there is no Singapore to choose from, Can we just select any country/location?

my question is how come the system take up so much space? 1.7GB...

and I can't seems to clean up...

Your question needs to pass to Xiaomi to answer.

My suggestion to Xiaomi users is to use SD card (Rec. Ultra SD, minimum Class 10, 48 MB/s, $10 for 16GB, SLS; class 4 can use but a bit lag), otherwise you will often have space problem, especially if install Kodi.

Install RUI.apk (Google for it), Setting, then you would be able to access the typical Android setting options:

1.1. Go To "Settings > About Mibox > Build Number."-->mine 5.1.23.1335
1.2. Tap (or mouse to click) "Build Number" until developer mode appears.
1.3. ---
1.4. Primary SD Card Setting: I set "use sd as primary store only when present".
1.5. Press Home button on Mibox control to get out of RUI Home

With the above method, will we have to reinstall any of the apps like HDPTV, Shafa, Tudou; which already have their files stored in the internal storage?

Also after doing this, and subsequently installing Kodi, does it mean Kodi will then install the usual folders inside the external SD, or one still needs to follow the method below?

Go to Normal Android settings page, apps, click on app name, click move to SD, some cannot move unless you rooted and use other app to move, Kodi-yes you need to follow the wiki, it should move all settings and addons to the new location on SD, once you place the file at internal root folder.

HDPTV - look for 苏州酒店's list under shared section.

Has many other channels from TW and USA like discovery... too.

anyone knows how to execute the below on the MiBox 3rd gen?

http://kodi.wiki/view/HOW-TO:Change_settings_folder_for_Android
Create simple text file, put that line into the file, place in internal sdcard (0) root location.
Text file name: xbmc_env
Extension: properties
xbmc_env.properties

Example content:
xbmc.data=/storage/sdcard1/kodidata

(i.e. you need to create folder/directory called "kodidata")

Open Kodi & all kodi setting & addons will be move there automatically.

If not, copy contents from here:
SDcard0/Android/Data/org.xbmc.kodi/userdata/*

Paste into here:
sdcard1/kodidata/

Use ES File explorer

Note: If not root, Kodi will be installed to internal memory only userdata is on sdcard. If rooted, can be moved (program) to sdcard (preferably min class 10, 48Mb/s, class 4 can use but slow).
