Is Mi5 Pro Ceramic still worth to buy? :)

For the specs, yes. compared to SGD 619 for mi5 32gb on local xiaomi website.

but limited availability on mi.com CN website and local retailers all mark up 150-250 above retail price.

anything below 600 is a good price for mi5 128gb, below 500 for 64gb and below 400 for 32gb

Lazada is selling at $628. Not sure if they follow recent price drop from Xiaomi.

if you factor in gst+shipping and local retailers warranty, it's ~10% premium for a piece of mind.

support local biz!

Sg set only have 32GB :(. But lazada with coupon cost less than $400 for export set. More like a 50% price increase for local warranty.

oh, I meant lazada/qoo10 when I said "local biz". Not mi.com/sg. LOL.

local mi website not for buying phones or anything else. Maybe only powerbanks. Xiaomi are not interested in selling directly to SG. Even air purifiers is sold by ntuc

thought you meant local set with local warranty :s13:. yeah the RRP of their products are jacked-up. I still don't see how 3rd party can sell export set for <$400 but local set cost $619. Even their powerbank most of the time OOS.

I got my base model Mi5 from Lazada and the seller address was in SLS. Curiously the list price from the shops there are all higher (didn't try to bargain or ask for "best" price)

For me the ROM supplied was the "fake seller ROM" but it was no biggy.....
Here's what i did :

1. Wipe and Flash to China ROM
I flashed to China Stable ROM using the Chinese PC Suite.
I believe Developer ROM will work also.
http://en.miui.com/thread-298885-1-1.html

2. Unlock Bootloader.
This was the most annoying part.
You have to submit a request through the Xiaomi site and wait a few days for approval. :(
If you intend to unlock the bootloader you should apply a few days before you get the phone.
http://en.miui.com/thread-267361-1-1.html

3. Install TWRP and SuperSU to root.
I used ADB method via a windows PC.
Had a problem with one of the TWRP versions (heart skipped a beat for a moment  )
But then used TWRP 3.0.2.0 and it worked perfectly. :s7:

4. Wipe and install Custom ROM
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development)
and then GAPPS ARM64 version (http://opengapps.org/)

Note: To flash to MIUI GLOBAL ROM use the recovery Rom here.
DO NOT USE THE FASTBOOT METHOD OUTLINED IN OTHER THREADS.

Personally I used shade.sh's unofficial cyanogenmod 13
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/mi-5/development/unofficial-private-cyanogenmod-13-builds-t3426349)
Even has OTA updates. Only gripe is that i prefer the back button to be the right capacitive button.

(edit: Found a way to switch the capacitive buttons - http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=68440544&postcount=353)

End result is a $400 phone with pretty good specs and CM13.
Bang for buck!
