repeaters cut e throughput by half if u dun mind that. it's a lower cost solution though.

This is only true if the repeater uses the same band for backhaul and AP.

I have a similar setup to tanchoo1 where the 5GHz band is used as backhaul, and the AP is the 2.4GHz and the bandwidth is close to if I connect directly to the main router directly.
(I use dd-wrt instead of openwrt in my setup as I have a Broadcom-based R7000).

What you said was true 10 years ago. Now there are many dualband repeaters which do not have this problem.

Anyone know if i can still use the downloader and NAS feature in AP mode?

i intend to buy a cheap 3c/4c and just use it as a dedicated downloading and streaming device for the house

Another option is to get a dual band wifi repeater to work with the original router.

I bought a tplink wifi repeater for less than $50. The TPlink repeater connects to the router on 5GHz band and it repeats as a 2.4GHz AP.

I use different SSID for the repeater because it is easily for me to decide which one to connect to.

Yes, my second identical router acts as a repeater. Basically it connects to the original router on the 5GHz WiFi band, and offers both 2.4GHz and 5GHz as an AP.

Most stock firmware on routers will be unable to do this though. That's why I sought out routers that runs Openwrt smoothly.

Hi,
Is the Wifi extender/repeater something like these?

My second WiFi router looks identical to my first router. With Openwrt, you can do pretty much anything with your router. I turned mine into a NAT repeater.

Self answered. Need to call M1 to ask them transfer the router permission to the new one. Please call 1627 for M1 fibre technical support

Carr to explain ? I have an asus router with the power button went crazy hence i bought a mi 4a gigabit to replace it

No way it can work with my m1 fibre: there are 3 settings for wan

Ppoe
Dhcp
Static ip

I obviously choose dhcp and set dns as automatic and it doesnt work

So i connect back the asus router and copy the automatic ip settings and replicate as static IP on the mi4ag

Not working. Always no internet

I cant believe i have itil and mcsa certification but i cant setup this bloody router with my m1 fibre

just bought a xiaomi mi 3 wifi router.

it says that it is not connected to the internet, despite me setting it up thru lan.

I'd set the tcp to auto.

bro, I followed xonix advice to call up m1 to reset the modem and it works.

the technical support said that the modem will always remember the last router device ID, hence plugging a new router to the modem straight away will not work.

the tech support advised that we had to turn off the modem for at least 15 mins, and the modem will reset the device ID itself.

thanks xonix for the advice.

My gosh i just saw this. This is exactly what i experienced. Pluggd in and wan just couldnt get ip. After quite some time it magically could get ip

So it is this bloody hell!

Hi Guys,

I just bought the Xiaomi Router 4A and the intention is to use it as a WiFI Access Point. While the specs wrote that I can connect to the following channels 36, 40, 44, 48, 149, 153, 157, 161, 165.

I realised I can't find these channels beyond the usual 36-48. Do anyone know where can I modify anything to get these channels back?

You got 4A or 4A gigabit edition?

Any feedback on its wifi range compared to your previous router?
