I was able to use the 10% code (at least for Amara & Carlton City) from the TripAdvisor link to Agoda ... so maybe this is the way to go ...

Charlton
Original price (1 room x 1 night) SGD 189.32
Instant discount -SGD 17.67
Price (1 room x 1 night) SGD 171.65 (before 10% + 7%)
Promotion Discount 10.00% -SGD 17.16

thanks :D:D:D

i wonder how you managed to find out this discount lol

I was researching for Tokyo hotels back in June/July and doing some price comparison. Googled high and low for any coupon better than the default 8% Tokyo coupon in agoda.

Came across this link on a chinese website. Tried and it worked! But i forgot to save the link and went back to search my past history. This time i bookmarked it and enter this link to book.

Edit*: It is up to one individual to do some research. I did an excel table for some Tokyo hotels pricing compared along agoda, booking.com, hotel.com.

Same here, I will always do up excel spreadsheet and compare ...
Then show to friends (those who are travelling together) and decide which is better ...
Sometimes would use expedia, though few dollars more expensive, but the cashback 9% is more than enough to cover the few dollars ... Plus I get to earn points which can be used for next bookings .
For example: my points is equivalent to $50 ...
Booking VIP hotels, I get to deduct $100, on top of using their coupons ...
On top of getting my cashback 9% back ...

As gold member on Expedia, you might have special privileges ...

Other then Agoda, what other booking sites offer good rates? So far all looks the same . Just found out Mobile phone app pricings are cheaper than PC for same hotel.

Expedia can be on par with agoda ...
normally some are cheaper on expedia ...
expedia would also have discount coupons from time to time ...
you may also want to link from the cc link ...

I booked directly from the hotel after found out is cheaper than Agoda site. You may compare hotel and Agoda first before booking the hotel.

These cancellations, are they still reflected on your credit card statement? Or does Agoda simply don't post it to the bank?

You have been warned not to book anything from Hotel Quickly. Just do a Google. The company seems to be in trouble.

Expedia owned many travel portal sites. Just google and you see it was recently fined heavily for racketeering.
Search "expediagroup". you get
hotels.com
expedia.com
trivago.com
cheapticket.com

Here is my experience with online hotel booking.

Agoda

Book it with 'pay now' option only if you found any good deal with promotion. Do not use their 'pay later' with free cancellation option. Their free cancellation simply can not be trusted. 'Pay now' will be in local currency, what you quote is what you paid. 'Pay later' will be in foreign currency where the hotel located, this is where the Agoda exchange rate kick in.

Booking.com

If you think you may change or even cancel the booking later when you found a better deal elsewhere then use booking.com and pay at the hotel counter directly at the currency where the hotel located. In this case, bank exchange rate kick in and there may be extra charge for credit card use too.

Expedia

If you don't mind pay now but want to get full refund if you cancel the booking later within the free cancellation period then this is the one. In this case, you are always charge with local currency.

In summary,

- Pay now in local currency with NO free cancellation go for Agoda.
- Pay later at hotel in foreign currency with free cancellation go for Booking.com.
- Pay now in local currency with free cancellation for full refund go for Expedia.

yup, booking.com and agoda is under one group ...
expedia sometimes have 10% discount ... (u can use them instantly)
would recommend people to book from them ... unless your discount cannot be applied, then booking from hotels.com would be good ...
the 11st nite, you will earn one free nite, based on the avg spent (exclude taxes) of the 10 nites ...

How late is recommended to book hotel rooms? I've a confirmed trip in around 4 weeks from now but my targeted hotel price is still quite high per night. I a bit worry room will be sold out nearer to my departure date.
