tpKzY2v.jpg

Xiaomi AC-M2-AA is the model of Mi AP2, AC-M1-CA is the MI AP1.

so those that are on sales in stores are not officially available?

but how many stores will be selling it? Seem filters are not seen available in stores too... Maybe it used and throw ones :s22: so far only online available...:s12:

Hi WussRedXLi,

I have been using ax40 24 hrs a day at low setting with original filter, any idea roughly how long i need to replace it? I know you mentioned that low setting is useless, whats the air flow at low setting compared to xm2 equivalent setting in same db.

thanks

Seriously, you will know when you'd need to replace it. It starts smelling way before it really drops in airflow.

It's not really good to run it unit it's even slightly noticeable in clogging.
And in my experience, that really takes some time as in years, except if you are in China or India or some middle eastern country with a fine sand issue. (also has a good % that is PM2.5)

Basically twice a year is fine. We usually have a haze period, it's good to change maybe in mid Nov or something. Then change another time in June. That reminds me, need to change now for some of my units.

There are quite a few sites (NOT manufacturer sites) recommending a few months change once. Both China (perennial bad air quality) and ang moh sites. Google for the detailed reason.

The issue is not with clogging, but with mold/bacteria and even virus copies on dried snot that someone sneezed out. Virus RNA do not float in the air by themselves in reality. They are probably dead and all dried out with the airflow, however, DO REMEMBER that we recently had pretty high RH% and funky weather esp during the trailing end of the Super El nino.

Check your aircon FCU, i am 99.9% sure that folks here who do not DIY clean regularly have a mold issue in their rooms which the device moves air/has airflow, though the aircon FCU is damp. Same with an AP.

I'm not sure about the airflow and noise r/s with XM2.

thanks for the reply, the problem is that my unit already started smelling after 1-2 months with a new filter, maybe that is the so call TCM smell? Not sure if it would smell way worse when the filter is about to reach end of life?

My filter is 8 months in and the smell hasnt changed all that much even tho im on low setting 24 hours a day. What do you mean by "It's not really good to run it unit it's even slightly noticeable in clogging:?

You mentioned in many post that the low setting is basically useless, any idea whats the airflow rate in low setting?High setting is too loud in my small room :(

Someone mentioned and a few of us have discussed this before.

Generally i think most folks would be ok with the initial 5-10 seconds of slightly smell.....i think ALL folks would accept that due to filter cost, even with a cheap SGD 7 (including shipping to SG) TB HEPA filter if it's just a few weeks new.

But what you mentioned seems to be a consistent low-level TCM/whatever smell that does not go away. Is this "imparted" from your room or mold or whatever substances, i think we'd never know. Is this good or bad? We'd never know also. Some mind this, some don't.

So i guess really depends on the individual.

Yeah, that's why i mentioned before many times that sizing the AP's airflow in the is very important in anyone's room. I think the AX40's low fan setting would not be more than 50 m3/hr.
Unfortunately it seems that you are a sensitive-to-noise pax and/or light-sleeper. So you may need to source for something that has a very low noise level at the operating speed that you need to set it at.

The AX40 has a pretty good noise:airflow:unit size relationship amongst all the APs.
But still physics is physics, you would need to get a bigger unit like the Sharp A80 and set it at a medium speed mode, but at 300 m3/hr is still good enough for your small room even if we discount it till 200-250 m3/hr for whatever intended or unintended reasons.

Lastly, it is only if you have medical conditions then would you need such a high Air Change per Hour (ACH) figure like 5-10 ACH. For normal pax, 2-3 is good enough, as per NEA and perhaps some other webbys.

Ok ;)
Some comments from my side:
- they don't understand how many speeds XM2 has
- they use for test standard HEPA http://item.mi.com/1161000003.html not more expensive HEPA+carbon filter http://item.mi.com/1153300008.html
- they use wrong filter cost 199 instead regular 149/169 Y
Your pass :)

1. The more expensive Xiaomi green filter has an additional separate AC layer, instead of the cheaper blue filter which i believe is AC impregnated.
The HEPA filter media is probably in the same ballpark really, bro Asakura was the last person who did some measurements with his laser particle counter at the outlet (actual particle count would be nice though).
Edit - ok, they measured it to be 96.22% efficient @ 0.3 microns.
But they have never measured the green version in other reviews.

2. The Xiaomi Air Purifier ver 2 uses the blue (cheaper) filter.

Of course the 2015 standards test the Formaldehyde removal rate as well (which would also impact the removal rate like TVOCs as well, though the relationship is not directly comparable).
So if one is concerned, just get the green filter from the stores (still have not seen it in the physical NTUC supermarkets here though)

The price is RMB149 for the blue filter and RMB169 for the green filter.
This is the official Xiaomi web store in which quite a lot of us forward our China stuff from nowadays.

They have given their own reports of the products, which we can of course read. But the most important piece of information/data is really this i guess. Armed with this, readers can go ahead and choose wrt to their own requirements and budget.

Minimum air fan speed CADR, that's probably the night mode?

I only played with the Xiaomi 2 very briefly to check against my 2 of my APs (Samsung AX40 and Mfresh M8088A). I believe the Phone app UI does not show settings for selecting the fan speed, but rather you slide a slider with markings set as m2 area, so i guess that's why they left out the fan speed data in here

As for noise, they said that a 45dB level would affect us different as a waveform bias towards lower or higher frequencies would affect us differently. So they created a "point system" in the 2015 standard - “风速档位合理性” = airflow speed setting reasonable-ness (direct translation)

They deleted the 2014 standard.

2 products, the LIFAair and Eraclean, have infinitely variable fan speed setting.

This is the Formaldehyde "filter", ie activated charcoal in most cases, filter life/filter capacity

They use cigarette smoke, which basically has a mass median mean diameter of 0.38 microns. You can google with the term "NCBI cigarette smoke particle size distribution".

Anyway, they just read it off the 0.3 microns reading.

Ozone release by the electrostatic precipitator models. Levels look pretty ok to me wrt EPA standards (even if you don't trust the chinese standards).

Yes, there is a slight flaw in which they took RMB198 as the price for the green filter version, hence this skews the results a little.

But still, in reality this makes little difference to the end results. Even at RMB 198, it's at the top. No biggie at all.

Final Total Score.

(as mentioned, no real effect for the Xiaomi 2, even with the slightly erroneous RMB 198 filter price)

The Eraclean Tower got 85.99% clean air at the output measurement, coz it mixes with some of the inlet air. No matter what, CADR is the value to look out for.

Check out the Blueair 503. As expected with another youtube video which did their own independent measurement at another test lab, the efficiency for this Blueair 503 tested is 94.99%.
This runs contrary to what some posters here claimed that Blueair has a very good and special filter, able to filter Anthrax spores and is used at US Embassies worldwide etc. How can China/Korean "cheapskate" products be better than those selected by the authorities?

Note - anthrax spores are pretty big at 1 x 2 microns. :)
And the bacteria themselves :
Cohn 1872.
Bacillus anthracis is the etiologic agent of anthrax—a common disease of livestock and, occasionally, of humans—and the only obligate pathogen within the genus Bacillus. B. anthracis is a Gram-positive, endospore-forming, rod-shaped bacterium, with a width of 1.0–1.2 µm and a length of 3–5 µm.
