Hi Singtel, was this issue ever resolved with the Askey AP5100W?

I am having the same exact problem. I have 3 mesh nodes. 1 wired to the Singtel router, the other 2 wireless. The first day of installation, the meshes paired and everything was working fine in the day. All lights were green on all 3 mesh units. At night 1 of the wireless nodes just unpaired itself and the 5ghz red LED started flashing. I tried pairing it again but it doesn't work no matter how many times I tried. I confirm that Singtel internet is working and the SSID is still being broadcast from the wifi mesh but the phone says the SSID doesn't have an internet connection. My Dad called up Singtel Customer Service and the CSO just brought him one big round and told him to visit AMK Hub Singtel Shop where we got the meshes. He went down and after discussion with the salesperson and the manager, the manager told him that he would process a refund and requested that he bring back the 3 units of Askey AP5100W as the Askey AP5100W is not recommended for multi-storey homes. This was not made known to us when we got the units and we specifically informed the salesperson that we are living in a 2-storey house and require 3 nodes.

It seems like your staff at AMK Hub is just trying to choose the easy way out to refund the units without even trying to solve our problem. If the Askey AP5100W is not suitable then would the other mesh systems that Singtel carry be suitable? Or are they all not recommended for multi-storey homes? FYI, we have not refunded the units yet.

Hi bro, I know how Askey can be very stubborn when pairing. but i tried this method and it worked for me within few seconds.

Connect the main unit and the 1st node using lan cable to the ONR or RG (each with its own lan cable) Then press pairing button on both. This should sync them pretty quick.
After the green lights are stabilized, check with your phone under wifi settings to see that the SSID has been merged and you dont see the 1st node's name. You can test out the connection by plugging the first node some where far in your house and wait for your phone to connect it.

you may repeat the above step for your 2nd node. As for SSID broadcast but no internet, Go into askey admin page. ensure that DHCP is disabled or under diff ip address. Also forget the network in your phone and retry again.

all else fail, simply just use a pin and reset all 3 Askey Nodes, it will bring you back to Singtel Default SSID and PW located and the base of the unit.

Yeah, it's quite frustrating as there is no manual on troubleshooting for the Askey and there is limited information online as it is relatively new.

Singtel sent a technician down yesterday but did not have a solution and he came again today with 3 new nodes to try out. Not sure whether he replaced all 3 as I'm not around today but my dad confirmed that it's working now so we'll monitor and see how it goes. If the problem occurs again, I'll try out your pairing method. Thanks for the tips!

The problem recurs after 2 visits by 2 different field engineers. Apparently, the Askey is currently out of stock and the nodes were not replaced. I have tried bro iskandershah's pairing method but it only seems to work for the 2 nodes that are not paired by default. I have 3 nodes currently, 2 came in a same box which are supposed to be factory paired by default and 1 in a box by itself which requires to be paired.

I suspect that 1 of the nodes that is supposed to be paired by default is faulty. This is the node that does not have an internet connection when connected directly to the router (SSID is still being broadcast but no internet connection). This is also the same node that is unable to pair wirelessly with the other 2 nodes. I tried using the other pairing method by connecting directly to the router using LAN cable and all lights show green but once I remove the LAN cable and try to get it to connect wirelessly the 5ghz LED starts flashing again. Currently, I am only using 2 nodes at home with the 3rd node unable to pair.

Singtel, I've recontract to a 2Gbps plan and installer came yesterday. He said Internet would be working in 4 hours time, I've called afterwards since it was not working and he said he would follow up on the matter.

Today Internet is still not working... How long will this issue take? My weekend will soon end just like that with no Internet. What a bad experience...

I didn't think recontract can make until so troublesome...

Hi Power Is Scarce,

Has the connection issue been resolved?

If not, could you PM us your Singnet ID and contact number, so that we can get the fibre team to check?

Thanks.

Hi all, pardon my first post after so many years. Just wanted to contribute some information which I have learnt from this forum and also based on my own testing:

I was searching for information on connecting to MioTV using wireless method and what I have got from the google search was that Singtel Wifi Mesh is able to do it. Then thr' this forum, I double confirmed that it works cos someone shared his connection here. So I was convinced and I went down to Singtel Shop and bought 1 pair + 1 extra node almost the next day.

Went home, I tried to set up as follow:

-- LAN Cable
. . . Wireless Connection
Distance between Askey1 and Askey2 < 5m
Distance between Askey3 and Askey1&2 > 10m

ONT--Singtel Router--Askey1 . . . Askey2--mioTV
ONT--Singtel Router--Askey3

mioTV speed was was bad, it played for like 2 sec and paused for 5 sec. You cannot enjoy the any show at all. At first I thought it was due to wireless connection. Later I found that it was due to the sharing of wifi from Askey.

Since they are all sharing from the same port, if anyone at home tap onto the wifi from Askey1 or Askey2, mioTV will be affected. Due to that, I have banned everyone from using the wifi from Mesh, instead, we switch back to using the wifi from the main Singtel Router.

How about Askey3 which I placed it in my bedroom and is connected to Singtel Router via LAN cable? Somehow, this node still talks to Askey1 and Askey2, therefore, still have some impact on mioTV. I have therefore completely removed this Askey3 from our network and for the past 2 days, I have been enjoying mioTV to the max. There is no single freeze screen at all since then.

My conclusion is, Singtel Wifi Mesh is good to cover wifi blindspot, the distance between each node, if possible, be less than 10 meter if there are obstructions in between so that 5G can be fully utilised. But if you need to use it to connect to mioTV, then dedicate these Mesh for mioTV alone and use your Singtel Router for other wifi usage.

I hope these information helps other people who are looking for wifi mesh to solve their problem with connecting mioTV using wireless connection (when direct LAN cable connection is not possible)

The wifi connection in my HDB flat is very poor - the router is in the living room while I use my laptop from my bedroom. It's not too far away but the connection is still very poor. I'm using a SingTel router.

Would you advise getting (1) a better wireless router or (2) getting the SingTel airties to improve the situation?

Thanks guys!

What I do is use the Singtel router in the living room and the Razer Portal set as AP (that time they were promoting it) in the common bedroom. Both are set to same SSID.

Now even in master bathroom with master bedroom door and master bathroom door closed also I have good wifi.

No one can answer you unfortunately, because your question involves environmental factors which no one knows. If you’re looking at theoretical speed, it’s published online on singtel website. Singtel wifi mesh only 3 models available; 4920 4930 and Askey. Iirc, 4920 no longer selling and left with 4930 and askey. 4930 and askey have some slight technical differences, have you read up on them?

Also, don’t forget you have other tonnes of options such as Linksys Velop. Just avoid Google wifi if you’re intending to aim it.

Hi awful999

Thanks for your patience.

We were waiting for advice from our Mesh product team before replying to you.

In your case where LAN cable connections are not possible, you can consider either Askey AP5100W or Airties 4930.

You can read more about both options here.

Do note that the area size and build of your premises will be important factors determining suitability.

well, you have to understand that its not the area that dictates coverage and speed, its the environment in which mesh units are placed. a simple metallic object that has large-enough surface can easily deflect away the signals.

anyways, singtel has a free on-site survey service available to let you know where to optimally place the mesh units. Most of the time, if ethernet backhaul is nor feasible, some people might also find the spot not feasible to place due to lack of power socket.

Here are a few links you might find them helpful:

https://www.singtel.com/personal/products-services/broadband/wifimesh

Whether or not mesh can improve your experience, its really a trial and error type of intervention. the bottle neck can be between the usb adapter and the mesh, or the link speed between the mesh units.

Rule of thumb, if there is no line of sight between the mesh units and your wireless client, then wireless backhaul is a no-no.

I'm using linksys velop and one of the nodes is by wireless backhaul with line of sight to another node connected by wired backhaul. the rest of my nodes are connected by cable to the router. in this set up, i have already fixed the quality of backhaul connection and what i can't control is the wireless environment in which its being affected by interference.
