Need a little confirmation before I sign up for the Askey mesh pair.

My current setup is FTP->ONR->AC1900->Desktop PC (in room)
The link between AC1900 to my PC is a ethernet cable.

I would like to get singtel mesh and connect in the following manner
FTP->ONR->AC1900->1st mesh(right next to AC1900)->2nd mesh(MBR)-> Desktop PC
I will utilise the backhaul LAN ports on the Askey to connect the 1st mesh to 2nd mesh using physical ethernet connection, also ethernet connection between 2nd mesh to desktop PC.

1) Is the above the correct way to set up?

2) The AC1900 already has its SSID, with the addition of mesh wifi devices, do I need to disable the AC1900 own wifi access point? Or do they work together fine under a single SSID?

Hi RSKeisuke,

Our fibre team suggests that you consider removing the AC1900 to simplify your setup as the ONR and Askey mesh may be able to cover your entire home.

Thanks.

Hi Singtel,

Just got Air4930 to replace 4920. Pls advise:

(1) What is 'User isolation' (Guest network) in UI of 4930 if box is checked; network segregation?

(2) Is ver. 2.45.2.6.1105 the latest FW for 4930? and if otherwise, pls advise on update.

Thank you.

Hi Singtel,

Seems like I'm experiencing only 20mbps download speed wifi throughput on wired ethernet backhaul for 2 units of Airties 4920 Singtel mesh, as compared to 330mbps download speed wifi throughput on 5ghz wireless backhaul. I'm using a pair of tp-link AV1000 powerline for the wired ethernet backhaul connection, and on 500MB fibre plan.

Used speedtest app to test on my mobile phone.

Any solutions to this? Anyone has encountered similiar issues for wired ethernet backhaul on airties 4920?

Hi nmemonic,

scubacat99 is right, the latest AirTies 4920 firmware is 1.33.10.1.1368.

Thanks.

Actually you can disable the wireless function on the AC1900 router for 2.4ghz/5ghz under wireless settings and set the router as AP mode.

so in AP mode, singtel mesh and the LAN ports will still work? Can my PC share the back haul ethernet connection with the mesh nodes?

Can Singtel confirm this please before i renew my contract for singtel fibre?

Currently, I'm using the wireless backhaul for my 2 Airties 4920 mesh routers due to download/upload throughput performance. Yes, my AC1900 router now acts as a gigabit switch/AP. Main mesh(left 1 LAN port free) is connected to LAN1 port of AC1900 router and mioTV setup box is connected to LAN4 port. Internet access from ONR LAN port, is connected to WAN port of AC1900.

2nd mesh still have 2 LAN ports free to connect to PC notebooks and other wired devices.

so in AP mode, singtel mesh and the LAN ports will still work? Can my PC share the back haul ethernet connection with the mesh nodes?

Can Singtel confirm this please before i renew my contract for singtel fibre?

Hi kgfamm,

Thanks for checking.

Yes, 'User isolation' will provide network segregation.

Our fibre team confirms that ver. 2.45.2.6.1105 is the latest firmware for Air 4930.

Connecting AP to Singtel AC Plus

Hello, I am on a 1GB Fibre Plan with Mio TV. Current set up is ONT -> Singtel AC Plus. Would a third party access point connected to one of the LAN port of the AC Plus work? and would that be the best way?

I was told that since I have Mio TV, the best would to use back the Singtel AC Plus router than to use a third party router.

Hi scubacat99,

Our network team suggests that it could be the TP Link AV1000 limiting your connection speeds.

Perhaps you can test by connecting your laptop to AirTies 4920 with an Ethernet cable, and if the connection speeds are about the same as before, then it probably proves that it is the limitation of the TP Link AV1000 homeplug.

EDIT 14 June 2019:
Alternatively, you can connect with Ethernet cable to the TP Link AV1000 homeplug to check the connection speed directly.

Thanks.

wireless router is a router with built-in AP.

how to set it as AP mode after you disabled the wirelsss function?

yes you may do it that way, remember to turn off all the wireless radio of aztech 7003 so as your wireless devices may roam around seamlessly on askey mesh.

is it better to request for the ONR and then connect to the mesh? or it is still preferable to use the current ONT+router set up.

i believe Singtel will only issue one a new set of Askey wifi mesh, and inform end user to turn off wifi radio of the singtel issued routers. It will be a backend logistical hassle for them to changeover ONT to ONR.

i can't comment on which preferable use as I do not have Askey wifi mesh, though I have done such setup at a relative's place and followed back the ONT + Aztech router set up.
