Hi guys,

I've opened a tda account for some time but never really use it. I'm now thinking to give it a try, account is still active.

I installed the thinkorswim but it showed the data as "delayed 20mins". How do I get the live data? By deposit some money into the account (my account now has $0)? Or they charge a price for live data?

Tried to google but more steps shown are for US account.

Thanks!

Deposit and use the TOS app to chat with support to activate the live data.

Thank you! I'll try with 500 first. Hopefully the process is automatic, currently their CS is really overloaded.

i actually called them up to make the data live. But that was like 3 month ago, maybe now a bit difficult to get through on the line... i called like around 10pm back then.

'There is no minimum amount to open an account. We recommend people start with at least USD$3,500. If you do fund with at least USD$3,500, we will rebate your wire fee up to USD$100. You need USD$25,000 to actively day trade, USD$5,000 to sell options naked, and USD$2,000 to have margin capability in your account. At a minimum, you need at least USD$500 to receive live real time data.'

this is from their website Q&A section :)

Hi xiaotaideng. I think when i did a USD transfer from POEM to DBS in usd there was no charges. There is a inward charges to dbs is only for incoming oversea USD money.
that been so. when i transfer USD from dbs to TD . it is also a local transfer so there should not be any charges by DBS....am I right?

I got the email telling me my account approved and ready for funding but I never see a tick beside the paperwork approval and no arrow beside fund your account.

So wait for that arrow or?

Finally after a 3 months wait, i got the email telling me my account is approved and ready for funding. I checked and all the ticks are gone except for fund your account. So i guess now is just transfer them the money. And of cos downloading the platform and getting the live feed, thank you guys for all the help getting me so far.

Hi, anybody transfer usd from dbs account to TD. I tried to send USD 100 but the dbs immediately show s$131.56 will be send to TD. Is the TD account with dbs a singdollar account or can we fund our TD account directly with USD from our multipler dbs account?

correcto~ DBS remit the usd to TD ameritrade Wells Fargo account, free~ cost only kicks in when withdraw, think TD charge 25USD and DBS charge 10SGD for withdraw.

sorry did not read careful enough, i think you need to use the Wire transfer option. Local transfer to TD they only accept SGD if i am not wrong.

i try the wire transfer and u are correct. It is free for USD. Why TD dont write clearly that local DBS transfer is only for singdollars and USD should be send by wire to Wells fargo bank.
Also thereinfo is so misleading. why is the address of wells fargo bank for? We are to fill up the recipient TD ameritrade address!! not bank address.

One last question.....what is the best option when withdrawing money from TD for singaporean. Shd we wire it back in USD?. Or maybe change the money to singdollar at TD and transfer locally back in singdollars?

Thanks alot for all your help? I give you a winning stock tip when i start trading.:)

no problems, this is the place we try to help each other and become wiser :)

I thought TD does say that local transfer can only be done in SGD. Not that flexible indeed..

About the recipient address, i did filled up the banks address, instead of the TD address..

About the withdraw, according to helpful advise from other more experienced member here, best way seems to be transfer USD back to your local USD account (so that the exchange rate wont go with DBS rate, but there will be 25dollar TD charge and 7USD DBS incoming charge). Then figure out better than DBS's rate to get it from USD to SGD. To get better exchange rate, there will be some cost in between, either via IBKR(best rate i know of) or other brokerage or Transferwise etc. How much cost is worthwhile depends of course on how often you need to withdraw and the amount you withdraw.

Would need help for withdrawing money out from TD to my DBS account. Very first time using wire transfer.

Is the swift code DBSSSGSG?
Do I need to indicate the bank State as Singapore or leave it blank?
Can I transfer the money directly to my saving account? Will it auto convert the USD to SGD?
Do I omit the dashes when I full in my account number?

Appreciate any assistance.

I have not sign for TD yet but im considering.
for withdrawal, i guess USD transfer is best as there will be no extra charges.
I understand some banks do not have this receiving wire foreign currency charge. So maybe can consider them to avoid this incoming fee?

Hi soros
Thank you guys. I finally got thro to the operator.
1) The feed is delayed on opening account and they will activate it on request.
2) Account must be funded at least $500 for singapore TD.
For US , the TD set up is different..
1) It is free even for simulator paper money but need to check non-professional.
2) TD desktop for US customer full function as can be seen in all the education videos and Utube posting by american users. Local TD platform is a stripped down version. i dont know why?
3) Finally when calling TD, dont choose 1 for new account. nobody will answer.

Call+65 6823 2250
Singapore Office 9 am - 5 pm +08 (Monday-Friday)
Overnight Support 8 pm - 5 am +08 (Monday-Friday)

The overnight support is a joke.. there is nobody to call for help after office hours.
Anybody know why they print can call 8pm to 5am???
4) Finally it seems the desktop is very crowded and complicated. the web version is more user friendly

You can chat with support through the think-or-Swim mobile app.

Been with tda since early 2000s when account was in USA. Used to just use web login to trade and stuff like ibkr now. Since they transfer to local office in early 2010s, can only use TOS program on PC or mobile app on phone.

It's actually in here:

https://www.tdameritrade.com.sg/faqs.html

Under the question: What is the minimum deposit required to open an account?

But ya, the instruction is not clear on how to activate. As per the helpful replies here, we need to contact the customer service to activate.
