Can i ask for a 3 bedroom unit, is it better to have 1 AX6000 in the living room or to have AX72 in living room then i use my lan point in the room to also set up another AX72 for good coverage via AP mode? Been reading about aimesh mode, is this possible with these routers?

i dont need the super good connection as i do light gaming/surfing net mostly… the other 2 rooms also used by my younger children, no need to be top notch connection. I assume the living room router can reach their rooms and the kitchen…

actually i have lan points in all the rooms..
Please note that TP-Links onemesh does not work with router to router. Only onemesh compatible routers to onemesh compatible extenders. TP-Link is working on another mesh standard called Easymesh, where compatible Easymesh routers works with TP-Link's own list of Easymesh compatible routers or other vendors. Currently there are only few TP-Link routers that are Easymesh compatible e.g AX55.
The list of Easymesh compatible routers are https://www.tp-link.com/us/easymesh/product-list/ or https://www.tp-link.com/sg/easymesh/product-list/
Note that many of the routers are in Planned list, and they have been since for many many months...

So you will not have True mesh, with 2 AX72 routers. The second router will be in AP Mode. You can name the SSID same as the main router but you may at times encounter issues with devices when they are in the range.

yup got LAN everywhere no need mesh so much

unlike my old flat no luxury to hack wall do lan line

have to settle with internet over coaxial since starhub remove cable tv days

surprising over coaxial cable with AP the signal is good

I will suggest to go with the first option. Since you have LAN ports in the rooms, cheaper dual band solution should be good enough. For example, you can get BNIB RT-AX55 from Carousell at about S$80 to S$90.
1) RT-AX55 as main router in the DB box
2) RT-AX55 in Bedroom 3
3) RT-AX55 in Master room

For the main router, you can also upgrade to a better one like RT-AX56U or RT-AX58U.
Thank you for your help!

Does upgrading make a significant difference?

stupid me went to take the free router, should have taken the ax6000 to sell instead… i forgot the profit is better

also i should set them up as AIMesh? Or AP mode?

Hi, seems like not so ideal to buy multiple Ax72 because of this limitation. Just to ask for asus, how does one setup optimally then? Using AImesh?

sorry im not so familiar with the terms as previously i used AP even though i had lanpoints in the room for my previous home

Tp link always cheap... The problem I have is firmware support.. i using Deco M9,support is bad.. especially when dealing with vulnerabilities.

Lesson learnt is to avoid them

Which would you recommend? A bit regret when recontract with M1 didn’t top up to get a better model since it is still overall cheaper than retail price

depends on your needs. processor more important? (eg running vpn server, dns black hole etc)? or just strong wifi and useage is mainly surfing and streaming?

if tP-link AX72 is one of the choices, then the asus RT-AX58U or 82U can be good replacements.
I no longer use Tp-link routers because of the firmware and support.

if heavier than average CPU useage, RT-AX86U, or ROG RT-AX6000 are decent replacements. ROG RT-AX6000 used to be able to buy from m1 even after re-contract. both also can get on carousell.

of course, there are other equally good brands available. key is to know your current and future requirements

edit: if the TP-Link AX72 came with the re-contract, can consider selling it to offset price of next router. or if you stick with existing RT-AC86U, use the proceeds of the sale to offset the subscription.
Mind you, RT-AC86U radio is still good. I just have reservations when compared to current models.

Thanks bro for the detailed post and guidance. For me i just need strong wifi mainly for streaming and mild gaming.

Was considering ax86u previously because i had quite good exp with ac86u. But unfortunately not carried by M1. Saw they have ROG rapture ax6000, ax88u (too big), and tuf gaming ax5400.

Ax72 signals just feel slow and bad…

out of curiosity, have you actually tried the AX72? I ask because someone recently posted a very positive experience with it.

if you don't have AX/Wifi6 devices, the RT-Ac86U could still be a solution. The potential conern are the age, high temp, and anecdotes of sudden death (i can't verify).

yes, the RT-AX86U is still a singtel-only special. one way is to find friends who are on singtel and want to re-contract but do not need the router. Not sure if the discounted price still makes it worthwhile vs a BNIB unit on carousell. Previously you could get a gundam special in SLS, but seems they are all out of stock now.

between the GT-AX6000 vs RT-AX88U, i'd go for the former (even though i'm using the AX88U). I dunno about the TUF-AX5400. I'm sure the more knowledgeable bros will enlighten.

if one router can cover your house (and you want to retire the RT-AC86U) i'd go with the GT-AX6000. get a good router to last many years. This model will also satisfy your primary needs of good wifi.

Just change from RT-AC88U to RT-AX88U. Area used to have 1 bar signal now become full.

What's the best AX router offered today by an isp?

M1: Asus GT-AX6000 (Purchase with purchase, S$383; or S$13.12 monthly x 24 month for new 1Gbps sign-up)

MyRepublic: Asus GT-AX11000 (Gamer 2Gbps plan at S$$47.99/mth for first 3 months and $58.99/mth thereafter (U.P $79.99/mth)

Needing your input, for a resales HDB 4-room unit, my main router is AX-86U, which covers most part of the house fine, except from MBR (which happened to be furthest away from the router), when MBR door is open reception in MBR is fine, but when door is closed then it becomes a blind spot

Which Asus ZenWifi model will be ideal as the secondary node that I will place in MBR? I prefer this as it's much smaller in terms of footprint (will be using ethernet backhaul), had thought of getting AX68U (I like standing design routers better) but it will be quite overkill.

Am struggling to get image posted here lol otherwise I believe that will be the best as I can share floorplan here.

If ethernet data point available, just get any within your budget will be sufficient. Either XD4 / 5 / 6 single unit should be more than enough.

Indeed it will be easier to post the floor plan, with details of the location of the ONT, the RT-AX86U and the LAN ports in the rooms (if any).

I use imgur myself to post photos in this forum. There are other services as well.

As xonix mentioned, Zenwifi XD4/XD6 should be sufficient if you can use Ethernet backhaul. If not and you have to use wireless backhaul, Zenwifi XD4/XD6 may still be okay if your put it in the right place. The MBR itself may not be the right place to put.

My contract with ST is expiring soon and planning to switch to SH 1Gbps plan and get 2 Asus AX55 router from carousell at around $100 each, will be setting the routers up as mesh and wired backhaul. (not sure if my plan will work)

main router will be in the living room, secondary will be either at datapoint A or B

im a very basic user, just want to ensure there is good wifi strength and speed around the house, wont be playing much with advanced settings.

will this setup be adequate?

Currently I'm using the asus rt ac1200g router for a while now n after the last update, i notice a 100mbps drop in lan. B4 is 900+mbps. N using wifi in the kitchen will drop 1 2 bar. Aft some research, it shows that this model is at the end of life n no further updates is available. The site recommend switch to RT-AX53U. Shud i stick to that or buy something better? Most of my connections are wired(tv, tv box n ps5). Thanks...
