As for Asus AX routers from Taobao, they work out of the box in Singapore, no need special version, just buy the default version with official Asus FW. You just need to switch the language from Chinese to English and the wireless region from China to Asia.
Hi can I check with you too

do you know if its possible to buy a Singtel sold AX68u router and plug and play with a different broadband user like m1?

Cautious of any potential conflict if Singtel modify their equipments.

Thanks in advance

SingTel does not sell Asus RT-AX68U, only RT-AX86U.

It is okay to be used with other ISPs.

SingTel does not really customize routers from Asus or Netgear. They provide customized routers from companies like Arcadyan (usually with Singtel branding), Askey and Airties and all of these customized routers are not good.

Starhub seems to customize routers from Linksys and Nokia. The Nokia Beacon 1 and Nokia Beacon 2 router are not good.

hi, seeking recommendation for router for basic home use 1Gbps from VQ.

HDB 2 bedroom setup with a wall between proposed AP location (as main and only router) and room.

Yet to move in but AC56S has worked well, though keen to upgrade to AX tier.

Main devices connecting are MacBooks and iPhones, a few other low-profile smart devices that probably don’t consume enough bandwidth to matter.

Prefer Asus due to stability, perhaps AX56U or AX58U or something else?

Budget ? If you are looking at AX56U/AX58U range, mayI suggest RT-AX4200 ?

Somewhere around 150 range.
Good reminder on the budget, choice seems quite clear now.
Probably AX56U/AX58U or as you suggested AX4200.

I did read some janky feedback about TUF routers, is AX4200 still recommended?

TUF Ax4200 quite new so not many user reviews yet. I suggested cause the specs seem quite ok for the price. It even has a 2.5gbe port in case you decide to subscribe faster plans

Hi I am currently using a AX82U from taobao. So far so good.
I just have one concern as the power adapter was China plug. I am using a multi-plug on it but I just feel safer to have a native UK plug instead.
Is there anywhere I can get a reliable native UK plug for my AX82U router?

Anyone know if Singtel Wi-Fi 6 Mesh Extender (Askey) is a good buy to extend my current non wifi 6 router?

I'm surprised my thread is still alive. I bought the Asus ax86u which was good.
Just bought a pair of xt8s recently as I moved to a bigger place.

Please note that TP-Links onemesh does not work with router to router. Only onemesh compatible routers to onemesh compatible extenders. TP-Link is working on another mesh standard called Easymesh, where compatible Easymesh routers works with TP-Link's own list of Easymesh compatible routers or other vendors. Currently there are only few TP-Link routers that are Easymesh compatible e.g AX55.
The list of Easymesh compatible routers are https://www.tp-link.com/us/easymesh/product-list/ or https://www.tp-link.com/sg/easymesh/product-list/
Note that many of the routers are in Planned list, and they have been since for many many months...

So you will not have True mesh, with 2 AX72 routers. The second router will be in AP Mode. You can name the SSID same as the main router but you may at times encounter issues with devices when they are in the range.
AX72 latest fw has Easymesh now.
https://www.tp-link.com/sg/easymesh/product-list/
I updated mine and wifi speed has improved tremendously. Able to get 900+mbps dl on my phone if places next to it. As fast as my wired connections. Was considering getting another to try the Easymesh but it doesn't seem necessary now.
Best $65 upgrade I bought to replace a faulty Asus AC3200.

Is xt8 good or should I get dedicated AP

Good in what sense? It's ok I guess.
Using 2 xt8s + ax86u as additional mesh node + an earlier ac router serving as AP. If ure asking what's the difference between mesh and an AP, I honestly can't tell the difference.

What do you mean by deidicated AP? Do you mean things like Ubiquiti Unifi APs?

Consumer grade mesh solutions like Asus AImesh (including Asus Zenwifi XT8) supports Ethernet Backhaul and Wireless Backhaul. When using Ethernet Backhaul, you can say the mesh nodes are also APs, it is just they may support 802.11 k/v/r (usually two or all three) or proprietary protocols like AImesh to support better roaming.

In this aspect, it is similar for small enterprise grade APs like Unifi, usualy they will support 802.11 k/v/r or proprietary protocols to help on the roaming side. It is just often they have better wireless performance and better management. Many of the small enterprise grade APs will also support PoE.

You can also use cheaper wireless router in AP mode and use them. They may not support 802.11 k/v/r so the roaming performance may not be so good. But you can still use clever placement and TX power tuning to help on the roaming side.

If you do not need to use wireless backhaul, you do not really need to use Asus Zenwifi XT8. You can use dual band Asus router which may be cheaper. For example, 2 x Asus AX4200 (S$249 x 2 = S$498) may already be equal or better compared to 2 x XT8 in terms of wireless performance/coverage if you can use Ethernet backhaul. The CPU in Zenwifi XT8 is pretty weak (same BCM6755 CPU as RT-AX55).

I am now using 3rd set of mesh solution,
the last 2 AC mesh router pair from Google onehub and Asus Lyra trio were with wired backhaul. they were serving me well ,Google onehub with best software usage experience with auto fw update. Asus Lyra is great too but firmware update for the satellite unit is painful, the app did not help to update all units.

as the wired backhaul is giving guaranteed higher bandwidth than the AC dual band could provide, as such, I stick to wired backhaul.

now on a TP-Link xe75 pro pair,AXE triband.
this is a first time, I find the wireless backhaul is providing higher bandwidth (no chance to test it due to broadband max limit at 1G)than the wired backhaul (1G).

I am still observing should I stick to wireless backhaul (6GHz) versus revert to wired backhaul(stability)

I have habit to shutdown all routers at 2 am, the next day 2 main mesh router and satellite racing to power up is timer control to stagger starting the main router first.

other information
my house is fully wired and with a square layout, the old school every room with AP+switch is serving all purposes of usage, definitely not losing out to mesh solution.
just curiosity to explore different setup.

I find those AX routers with unicorn antennas too intimidating to place in living hall therefore getting the mesh router which usually with simpler design.

I have 2 x Asus AX86U running AiMesh. I want to buy RP-AX58 from Taobao. Do you think I can add it as third AiMesh. I cannot find RP-AX58 from any stores in Singapore. Please help.

It should work as per Asus website. However, the price does not seem to be low and it has only one LAN port. Maybe it is better to buy RT-AX57 (AX3000, at about RMB399 as per official Asus China website)
