There needs to be adequate cooling within your system otherwise the performance will be affected and from what I've read on NVMe SSD's you run the risk of loosing data as well as shortening the lifespan of the SSD.

The Gen4 SSD's tend to have heat syncs on them so there has to be more than what your saying there,... I have personally noticed that the Aorus NVMe I have does get extremely hot!

Price dropped back to the lowest I've seen it @ $189 again this morning. May have to pull the trigger and get one of these since the 2TB's are still way too expensive.

That particular board has heatsinks on the board itself so I would buy without heatsinks and use what they provide. Will also look better once its assembled.

Just to add on my recent experience.

Have 2x 1TB 970 Evo Plus,
when i run Crystal Disk, the temp easily reach 90deg (wo A/C) and throttling is to be expected.

Both idle ard 45~55 depending on which slot i place them & the ambience temp.

Just bought another Adata SX8200 Pri 2TB, temp seems to be the same range.
Didnt collect much data cause Adata SMART data cannot be readback in Win7, have to boot to WIn10 to read the temp.
(Anyone know which mfg provide their own Nvme Driver beside Samsung?)

Strongly recommend the Jonsbo heatsink for desktop usage.
My max temp drop by 20deg to <70deg when benchmarking.
(this is wo removing the Waranty sticker/label, i suppose wo the label, you will gain another 3deg)

Do note Josbon have 2 type of Heatsink,
the taller one have the best cooling, but may not fit all slot.
the shorter will fit any slot, but cooling wise not as good.

Forget the Orico, poor design, have to "force" a bit in order to install.
(The cut-out at the bottom plate will not clear the stand-off screw,
if you position the ssd more towards the back, the front connector may not fully insert)

None thus far. B550 limitations same as B450, one of the M2 lane by the chipset will use only PCI-E 3.0 x 4, while processor will support the first lane of PCI-E 4.0 x 4.

To my knowledge only X570 boards have PCI-E 4.0 x 4 for both lanes.

If you using Gen3 ssd, most B550 MB should have 2x M.2 slot bas (1x Gen4 x4, 1x Gen3 x4)

If using Gen4 ssd, unless you willing to give-up PCIe Slot 1,
then you can have another 4 ssd using Gen4 x16 via adapter.
(Vga have to use PCIe Slot4)

this is the temp of my Adata SX8200 Pro 2TB when running crystaldiskmark.
idle temp around 46deg, max temp at load during benchmarking is around 70deg max..

if you want both m.2 slots to run at pcie4 speeds you need x570

I feel the temps are all on the very high side if you ask me. Granted I don't run benchmarks on my SSDs, but generally I don't see it hit 70 degs even without a heatspread/ heatsink to cool them. Somehow I feel Samsung is optimizing performance over efficiency with the Evo Plus, which results in the side effect of high temps.
