the worst mentality to have when you choose to have kids is banking on them to take care of you when you're old. to this, i say to those parents fck you.
you should choose to have kids only to nurture and love them, to bring them up to be good people in society, not as a money tree or shelter for you when you're old.
to have those kind of expectations is being a selfish person. if they treat you well when you're old, that's a bonus, not a must.
this is my mentality. I don't expect my children will support me when they grow up. They don't owe us a living. In fact we do. cuz we didn't give them a choice when we decide to bring them to this ****ed up world.
of cuz when grow old will definitely miss them a lot when they have their own family and stay separately. and of cuz is like tio 4d bonus when they decide to take care of u for life.
older people like my parents got thinking that since they give birth to us means we must give them money forever and shelter if next time they not capable of doing that themselves in future. but I will say sometimes there is a limit to this, not say don't want to be filial to them, but in times of need - imagine getting married, buy house, reno house, hire maid, endless bills to pay, have children, all these is money. Parents can't help to tide over temporary nvm but still expect you to squeeze money to them even when ownself pocket very tight(both parenting still working with income). TBH - I wont want to see my children in such situation in future. nor will I force them to give me money , as long they once in awhile visit me and don't forget me I will be contended.
to provide a shelter for them, yes unless u stay in big bungalow can accommodate. got helper to look after their 3 meals when u working etc but stay in hdb, nowadays so small how to squeeze u ask urself. and will ur other half like it or not? many factors to consider. But these old ppl never consider all these.
