A DVR is something like Starhub's Hubstation, right? I don't really want to pay monthly rental for a box that isn't mine... Are third-party DVRs available, or are they extinct too?

I went to the Courts at Lot One and didn't find any. Maybe that store was just too small.

Hi all,

I'm thinking of buying a DVD recorder with hard disk to record TV shows, and to my horror, I find that they're getting phased out (or have already been phased out). Does anyone know where I can still find DVD recorders? Or do I have to resort to Amazon for units like this?

DVR not just from starhub. Go to pc shops & look for the brand haupage (my spelling maybe off). It records to the box then u save on your pc or burn to disc.

Thanks for your reply, but I'm looking for a simpler way because I'm not too tech savvy when it comes to TV.

Nowadays u can make the HTPC behave in a user-friendly fashion just like a TV, with freeware like XBMC.

I need to get the Sesame Street shows off the Hubstation for my niece before I can go optimize the Hubstation hard disk


The Hubstation is a rental unit and working fine until the recent firmware upgrade making it slow to change channels and hard to record shows (it keeps saying its full but there are 15 hours left of recording time inside).

I used to have a ACRyan PVR72100 but it died a few years back (something burnt inside).

I got this for her but she finds it too hard to use.

Any idea what else we I can get her that is similar to the Hubstation interface and can record the shows?

I bought the Panasonic DMR-EH59 for $479 (original price was $599). I contacted HN via their website and one of the retail managers brought a set over to the HN nearest my place.

Problem is that it uses Composite input - which typically results in major quality loss.

Also, DVB-T2 coming real soon... is there a new model coming soon?

Btw, I'm also considering the NV-812 model which has component input (but non-digital tuners unfortunately) - how does the video input quality compare against the S-200C? Does component input give better image quality?

I believe it needs a PC to work? i.e. it does the video capture and encoding (or is the PC CPU doing the encoding too?) and the PC needs to write the video data into HDD.

Composite input is good enough for some basic user.

Yes, we have a new DVB-T2 STB model launch in end of this year. But it is not support AV input recording.

Not much different. This is because NV-812 Component input recording image quality maximum video resolution support up to 720x576i only.

How about the signal quality if you direct view your Hubstation Tv program from your TV via Composite input?

The recorded signal good or bad via composite input, it also depend to the recorder main processor. Usually, the record video quality will be same like a DVD quality.
