It’s not so much of it being superior, but more of it being EU regulations forbid Shell - and thus Castrol as well - from selling processed mineral oil as ”synthetic”, so Shell and Castrol synthetic oil from Europe is a different formulation which is genuine synthetic.

So in a sense is more superior?

Thanks for sharing. Maybe bring my car there with my own oil. Labour itself for $20 is already quite cheap.

Yup. They are not true synthetics. They are made from mineral oil.

But it doesn’t matter that much so long as the additive package is good enough.

So a Castrol Edge or Mobil 1 EP should be able to safely reach an OCI of 8,000km (depending on driving patterns).

Nvm. Just go buy Castrol Edge and change it every 8,000km or 6 mths. These are still good oils.

Yeah after I drive 8k km on this mobil 1 gold haha.

the Castrol edge is half the price of the mobil 1 gold that I bought. Don't mind changing every six months. Come to think of it, is like $2 more than shell only yet is much better than shell?

I just got a second hand renewed COE. Went to mechanic and recommended mobil 1 5w-50. Is that too thick or it's alright?

Cannot make, but I am sure when you go there. They will advise things to replace or repair for your car.
Common techniques...
One of frd also intro one cheap servicing workshop, with free wipers one. He never step out of the shop with spending 3 digits at least.... Hmm...

This shop i went before for their previous EO promo. Last year, SHU at $10/4L, labour and filter all in and the usual checks. Chop chop...

Yes, is their duty to check and tell you their findings, is up to the car owner wana fix/ replace it or not. This shop no push push for sales. They told me that my top engine gasket leaking liao. This one am aware as previous workshop did highlight to me too. Ask me go buy own parts then come back let them fix, also shown me their price and which spare parts shop they get this from.
This is so transparent lor.

I guess your frd went into a "black" shop lor.

Diff workshops will tell you diff type of EO grade. Each of them sure have their own logic saying....

Personally, all these while i only tried 5w40. At 10k EO interval, i will "pamper" the car with EO additives. lolz:s13:

Those who knows what they want is good. Those who don't know, gasket leaking, sound haunting to them.
Those who know how to go stockist buy and repair, I don't think those work shops like us...
My top gasket cost $20 made in Japan original . Labour $20...

A reputable workshop told me my car better to use 40-weight oil although it is 6 years old ... say use 30-weight will lose torque :o
