I'd say use any of the "mid-range brand" synthetics at 30-weight, but buy them only then there's a GB on your car club, or when they're on sale in Giant (Mobil1).

Redline, Amsoil - around $16 per quart during GBs, if you buy the gallon it's usually a little bit cheaper.

Mobil1 - I don't know if there are still $9.95 sales like the old days. People who shop at Giant SWEEP these by the boxes once they're on sale.

i tried both liquid moly and voltronic...both also okay to me...just that difference of abt 50bucks only

voltronic seems to maintain lower oil temp though

Kah Motor uses Shell, I bring my own oil and save ~$50
Quite a number of ADs use Shell. :o
That is what I understand too.
So why not use Shell when Quite a few ADs using I wonder?
I believe it's a bulk or contract arrangement between ADs and Shell, not that it's the best for their cars.

Apart from the fact that you'll be paying about double the price using AD-supplied Shell (you can pick up a gallon of Shell oil from supermarkets for ~$50+), it's 5w40 and not the optimal weight oil for most modern cars ... e.g. almost all of the current Hondas (except the Type Rs) are specced for 20-weight oil (although most folks will still use 30-weight for "added protection"). Using a 40-weight oil will affect your FC.

Thank you so much for sharing the technical knowledge.

I do understand it may not be the 'best' EO used but as those brand new cars service under AD will need to stick to AD.
For example: Need to service for 3 years / 60,000km mileage.

Hence, having not to be the 'best' EO used.
Will Shell affect the engine?

Shell EO is decent lah. The engine won't explode don't worry. Better to use a decent EO than not doing EO change regularly. Ferrari F1 also use Shell. :s13:

Shell is okay, thing is it's w40 and it's expensive. Mobil 1 when on promotion are around 9.99-11.99/quart during promo while IMO feels better than Shell.

The explanation I heard for using 40 oil instead of 20 or 30 is because engine wear is higher in sg due to the stop-start traffic conditions here.
