I got it years ago. First time went hospital, they asked to do exercise with a stick. After a few weeks, I stopped. Lasted about 9 months. Second shoulder got it a couple of years later. Luckily it was less severe and lasted 5 months. Basically there isn't much you can do, just live with it and it will go away.

During the 18 months, what are the things not to do to get better?

my job has to stand 9 hours per day. No need to carry anything heavy but end of the day, frozen shoulder will happen

At first i didn't know is frozen shoulder, thot is muscle tear. Then doctor refer me to specialist, also didn't know got shoulder specialist one. He told me to do some stretching exercises and told me will take very long time to recover by itself.

I didn't do much just let it recover itself.

Frozen shoulder pain is really unbearable. I had it in 2017. I had difficulty to wear clothing and sleeping. Went to see doctor and was referred to a physio therapist. After underwent 8 sessions, didn't recover. So decided to try other treatment like pulling big rubber band exercise, rub shoulder against the wall with tennis ball and use hot pack. It helped to loosen my shoulder for a short period. One day I decided to try to hang at the chin up bar. It was very painful but I could feel my shoulder was able to straighten a bit. After tried a few sessions, my shoulder was recovered. I did recommend this treatment to some of friends and colleagues, however it did not work for them.

Deadhangs, standing assisted if you cannot hold your own weight with just your arms yet.

For TS and others who might be interested.

I did similar exercises according to these videos; the exercises my physiotherapist taught were similar to or a subset of these.

Note: Best to see doctor first and consult physio before attempting the above. Or if you wish, go slow and try it out in fewer sets first. Consistent effort required before seeing some results.

It never recovers fully for my case. Just that now the angle I am able to bend my elbow backwards has increased.
I just want to put on my bra, other movements I still can close 1 eye if cannot recover fully 😔

kena before frozen shoulder. TS one doesn't sound like frozen shoulder. in Chinese is called 五十肩 (think more for above 50 ladies) or 肩周炎.

mine took 2 years plus to recover 95%, some motions still got aches and pulls. at the start, is really cannot move the shoulders and it came one shoulder after another. for english sites, can see the three stages of frozen shoulders. first and second stage, the pain is quite intense.

no sudden injuries, is just suay. best see tcm and acupuncture.

chatgpt answer on whether to go for surgery (if very painful, steroid injections maybe effective):

So… Is Arthroscopic Capsular Release Right for You Now?

✅ You might be a good candidate if:

  • You’ve done consistent physical therapy for several months.
  • You’ve tried (or are not responding to) anti-inflammatories or steroid injections.
  • Your range of motion is still poor and it's affecting daily activities or sleep.
  • You’re healthy and want to recover faster than the natural thawing process allows.
  • You’re motivated to follow post-op rehab (super important).

⚠️ Consider holding off if:

  • You’ve only had light or inconsistent physio — sometimes switching to a new, more aggressive/stretch-based program helps.
  • You haven’t yet tried a hydrodilatation (joint distension) injection — this can sometimes “jumpstart” progress without needing surgery.
  • You’re okay with waiting out the natural course (which can be up to 2–3 years).

one thing to take note of
stiff shoulder doesnt necessarily mean shoulder muscle tight
can be tight muscle from somewhere else maybe even lower body
try to see if have full body stretch tutorial
then see whether feel better or not

You need to start doing deep stretches for the shoulder dude. I had this before and had to go for physiotherapy. Damn painful
