You cant put that way .. I don't know how you get this kinda idea. Every licensed Service center always provide their best effort to ensure their customers laptop is running in good condition!

It will be a 50%-50% thing, because in the big corporation, it is hard to control each and every staff commitment level. :D

i've been to the service center twice and both for hdd problems. i've to commend on the service as the staffs are pretty efficient on both counts. my laptop now is more than 3 yrs old and running without hiccups.
if i encounter another hdd failure, i'll just go sls and get a suitable hdd, install it myself and run the recovery cd.

I wonder if the service center would be glad to help me upgrade my hard disk from my current 80GB to maybe at least 160GB for a fee and I wonder how much would that be. Haha!

For what I know the service center will not do any upgrade for you, even if they do it will be very expensive, not worth the $$ spend.

the easiest way to "upgrade" your hdd is to buy a new harddisk and install into the machine, reinstall teh OS using the recovery cds and you have an unit with 160 gb hdd, do check if the unit able to support 160 gb hdd anot.

for my knowledge fujitsu use 4200 RPM hdd and also able to support 5400 RPM, tried b4 using 7200 RPM ...sometime did not work so take note...

oh ya the the old hard disk u can just buy a harddisk enclosure to turn it into a protable hdd for backup usage ....

Hi does anyone know how many years warranty is the harddisk for Lifebook C series?

My aunts laptop has problems booting up, it just stops at the Windows loading screen and will sometimes enter the checking the harddisk. But it will always stop at around 12% and some tick tack sound will be heard. I think the harddisk is spoilt.

Isit worthwhile to go back to Fujitsu if its no longer under warranty to get the harddisk replaced? She cant remember when exactly she purchased the laptop but its probably end 2003 or early 2004.

C series normally should be 3 years warranty, be safe to call in and check, but 99.999 % its out of warranty ... if you are thinking to sent to service center to test it, forget it ... you are going to pay let say $85.60 for the service charge .... just to find out what happen to the machien .... with $85 ... I can buy a new hard disk maybe 40 gb? and install it into the machine reinstall the OS and see if it work, for cases like hang at windows loading screen ... high chance hdd fail ... worth to try ... :s13:

$80 for service fee? That's excluding price of the harddisk if it needs replacing right?
That's kinda expensive though. But will they just replace the harddisk or will they install OS back? How many years warranty will the harddisk be if i get it from Fujitsu? Standard 3 years and will they replace/fix it for free if the harddisk fails within the 3 years or still need to pay another $80 for the service fee?

I'm wondering whether its better to get a harddisk from SLS and replace it myself but i dun have experience in replacing laptop harddisk although 1 of my friend offered to show me how. I'm just thinking whether its better to DIY or go back to Fujitsu.

ok this is a tricky question ....

let take example you bring to the service center to check hard disk is faulty ....
-$80 service charges
-$370 for 100 gb hdd (my friend just got his hard disk change recently, fujitsu only sell 100 gb hdd now)
-$370 = 1x100 gb hdd, come with preloaded windows and if possible simple backup
-fujitsu harddisk come with 1 YEAR OF WARRANTY
-fujitsu will replace the hard disk if it is faulty within the 1 yr of warranty but service charges think they will still charge unless you change not long ago.

and if you buy from outside
-you should be able to get a 100 gb hdd for lesser than $130
-do not come with OS
-3 years of warranty normally

you can ask the service to install the hdd into the machine for you, I think if you ask nicely they will help you without a charges . :s13: ..and you will need to bring back and use your recovery CD to install the OS.

summery ... IF YOU ARE RICH...., do in service center
IF YOU ARE NOT RICH ... do it yourself .. you can save alot .... :s12:

what model of fujitsu notebook you are holding on to?!? mayb I can give you some advice ... if not call up the service center to seek their advice :s7:

all you have to know is what type of HDD you are looking for IDE or SATA .... RPM range from 4000~6000 should work ... and the location of the hdd in the notebook ... a screw driver .... that should do the magic .... :D

oh this is easy model

S2110 use IDE hard disk so take note ....

1st of all get a hard disk ....

I cannot tell you for sure if 160 gb can work in S2110 anot.... the safe capacity is 120 gb hdd as I have tried before ... theory term 160gb should work ...

remember to user RPM 4000~6000 range, work the same for most brand of notebook ...7200 rpm some brand do not support ... and it spoil easy

to work .....
flip the notebook upside down
locate the hard disk area, lets take example if the battery is on the upper right hand side of the notebook when you flip over, the hdd area will be in the upper left hand side ... normally your windows licence key will be on it.... use the screw driver to open the cover for the hard disk (2 screw), open the cover you will see your hdd ... your hdd come with a hdd cable, disconnect the hdd cable from the machine and you can take out the hdd, the next step it to disconnect the hdd cable from the hdd and there your are .. you just took out the hard disk :s12: .... do the opposite ways to install the new hard disk back in.

oh so we use the recovery disc can already?no nid buy vista or xp installation cd?

yes the recovery will be able to load the OS in for you, and the type of licence your recovery CD give you will depand what OS come together with your machine when you purchase, the windows licence stciker is normally paste at teh bottom of the notebook so if you are unsure abt ure licence can flip the notebook over and locate the sticker.

you will need to buy CD only if you wish to change to another OS that you are not "licence" example your notebook coem with a windows XP, you wish to upgrade to vista, will need to buy retail pack vista for a clean installation.
