awww thats sad to hear about the light roasted bean part for 064S, pity.

Agree about the grind setting part, luckily my eyesight is still good enough for it - considering those third-party 3-d Printed magnetic grind setting indicator but feels the price is out to chop carrot so didnt purchase yet.

talking about the grind setting reading reminds me of another nit-picking aspect, which is the RPM setting, have to always tilt the grinder side ways to adjust the RPM - quite annoying sometimes
But it was a very very small matter, even finer than the grind size that I am getting now. :ROFLMAO: Also, I prefer to pour the beans in gradually into the hopper, instead of pouring in all at once and closing the magnetic lid.

I actually prefer the taste of the lighter roast, so I may get another batch to try again. I have bought new airtight containers to fill up 1 kg of beans.

Hmm, ya, I read about the 3D printed indicator. Please share here if you have decided to go for one. HAH!

For the turning of the knob for the RPM wise, I adjusted the RPM to 1200 and left the setting there. I doubt that I would tell the difference, anyway. :coffee:

I am glad to know of another Sculptor user here!

Taste Note: Niche is by no means a "bad grinder". its solid and does what it's suppose to do well, which is traditional tasting espresso.
however sculptor is able to bring out more clarity and fruitness, if that's what you are looking for in your coffee / beans.

Operational noise: Sculptor win hands down. Niche is just too loud for me, heck even DF64's noise sounds less "atas" even when its pretty "quiet"

Workflow: Niche will have some retention and its annoying having to "knock" on the grinder or pump the third-party add-on bellow, causes a mess and just doesn't sit right for me.
The knocker on Sculptor on the other hand is just classy. Spin-Spin-Tick-Tack and its done, not to mention the knocking sound is rather pleasing.

Ease of Maintenance: Niche or DF tends to get left over retention around the chute area especially and also on the blade, even if you do RDT (spraying your beans before grinding), so you would have to open it up frequently to clear out the chute.
For Sculptor, you will get the RDT retention on the blade only if u spray alot of water on the beans - although i can say that the Sculptor needs no RDT and performs excellent without any additional step, which is a big plus for me personally.

Cleaning: No comments for Sculptor as i've not done any cleaning yet, still working perfectly. Although i've opened it up to check the burrs for retention etc and can say that its relatively easy, just need the hex key.
Niche, easy to remove and clean so not much of an issue too.

Build Quality: Sculptor win hands down. Niche has this plasticky feel cos it is made of plastic.
Whereas if you actually manage to hold the sculptor, the housing just feels so solid and heavy. I dare say that you won't believe its actually below $1.5k if no one told you about the price - feels like those grinder which can be sold around 2-3k price range IMHO.

However side note that the above only holds true for 078S. There has been reviews that the 064/064S doesnt feel as "premium", build quality or material wise, and its much lighter thus doesn't feel as "premium".
Also, 064S will have stalling issues when you grind lighter beans at the lower RPM range so take note of this and go for the 078S if you plan to do light roast. However!! if you turn up the RPM, 064S is still able to handle light roasted beans.

Hope this helps!

P.S. iirc i saw that Cheerful Goat does some roadshows around shopping malls and some of the larger roadshows, they do actually display the Sculptor grinders for you to have some hands-on. not sure if there are still doing these roadshows but you can talk to them to find out i guess?
They are the official Timemore distributor in SG, and my kickstarter's Sculptor is delivered by them.
Thanks for the detailed review! Super helpful :) May i ask which coffee machine you’re using?

I haven’t got one yet, waiting for my house reno to complete 🙈 but very tempted to get the LM micra
With the budget, I would recommend u take a look at the decent machine if you like a high tech machine where u can do all thee setting digitally, else maybe Sanremo You since it's around the same price as LM micra if I'm wrong.

LM is mostly for the brand and build quality but the flow control etc leaves alot to be desired, imho

But quite daring to spend so much on your first espresso machine

The decent looks really good, will need to read up abit more! Was intimidated by all that technology and settings available to tweak, and not sure about the local support available. Have used LM before in cafe settings and there’s the familiarity aspect of it since it’s something I’m used to compared to the rest. The san remo you is a lot more pricey than the micra! But close to the LM mini price. Are you happy with your lelit so far?

I'm using Lelit Bianca V3, loving the option for manual and automatic flow control.

Which machine are u using?
Hi hi, were you using the DF64/ DF64P/Gen 2 prior to the Timemore? I got my Mara from Cowspresso about a month ago and I was considering the DF 64 Gen 2 but was recommended the DF64P instead.

Yeap, solid machine and worth every penny. LM is more of a workhorse tbh, but lacking the innovation imo.

So really depends on what u prefer.

I've only used the DF64 and gen 2, never tried the 64p so can't comment on it.

But both 64 I've tried so far, there are always static issue around the chute area, especially if you are grinding few shots back to back. Saving grace is the gen2 have removal chute which you can remove for cleaning regularly, albeit it's extra work

I was considering the Gen2 over the 64P but that was not available ex-stock. After reading your review, I’m glad that I have chosen the Timemore. 😅

Has anyone tried shipping in a Breville machine from Australia?

Looking at getting the Breville Infuser or Bambino.

Seems like it's much cheaper than buying in SG. Any issues with the power plug and power?

Yes. I didn't ship but I purchased one from Australia retail Bing Lee (Breville Dual Boiler) for about S$1.1k inclusive of import tax to SG. My friend hand carried it to SG for me.

No issue with power since it is running same as SG unlike US electronics. The plug is Australian plug so you need an adaptor and good to go. Breville is really cheap in AU.

No regrets and still pulling it regularly.

Which grinder are you using?
Or are you using the build in grinder?
If you are using the default build in grinder, i think you can use that money for a good grinder.

If you already have a good grinder.. than i think its up to your preference and $$$$.
Im using BDB with niche zero.. No complain. great for my usage and taste.

A good espresso be it you add ice water/ice cold milk/hot water/ etc etc..

It all begin with the grinder and extraction.
with $699 budget. I would suggest go carousell and find 2nd hand
delonghi dedica ec680 or ec685 and DF64 grinder..

more troublesome, but i think taste note will be better.
Or if you only want 2in1 .. than i dunno.. maybe some other folks can recommend.
