Your numbers actually look like have chance to be lowered with diet and exercise without statin (provided you don't have other underlying conditions like high BP /cardio issues).

Your HDL and TG are reasonably good. Your LDL is about 40 points away from Desirable (129). If diet/exercise for 3 months likely to bring you to the Borderline High range, then another 3 months bring you to Desirable range. Then you have to stick to good diet/exercise for life.

But if you are not that kind of 'determined' type, then statin for life is a 'no choice'.

*After 50, it's very difficult to keep LDL below 100 without statin = I never dare to aim for that as that will require 'ultimate discipline' that I don't have.
I think Statin is like miracle drug for keep LDL low. But long run usage and linkage to dementia is unclear. Statin usage and memory impairment an cognitive decline is also unclear?? Doing youtube search some MD, Phds says Statin has a direct connection with dementia and memory impairment but its a mix really, with proponents on the either side of the aisle.

However, what is very clear is the big pharma is laughing all the way to the banks. its like a 35 USD billion industry. Big pharma says taking statin decrease LDL and its good for the brain and improve the cognitive function and prevent dementia.

Take your side, i am not doctor.

For instance, statins have been shown to impair memory functions in rats by reducing levels of neurotrophins such as BDNF (Okudan and Belviranli, 2020), whereas the opposite effect has been reported in mice (Roy et al., 2015)

exforge 5mg/80mg
So its a calcium channel blocker + Angiotensin receptor blocker.
ie lowers your heart rate & also make blood vessel less restrictive, work hand in hand.

This product is used to treat high blood pressure. Lowering high blood pressure helps prevent strokes, heart attacks, and kidney problems. This product contains 2 medications: amlodipine and valsartan. They both work by relaxing blood vessels so blood can flow more easily. Amlodipine is a calcium channel blocker and valsartan is an angiotensin receptor blocker (ARB).

what does mummy123 eats? mines LDL like 171 HDL 44 , seems quite poor huh, cos i often eats Mcdonalds?

u always eat steamed food? zero oil in diet??

Mostly homecooked food.

I practise 'Balanced Diet' with Carb + Protein + Fibre in a meal (about 200 gm of veg per meal).

Low salt, minimal sugar. Occasional fried food (maybe once a month).

Samples:

*I must have my carb else I don't feel full. Last time could eat 3 bowls of rice but now cut to 3/4 bowl (recently up to one bowl coz trying to put on 1 kg). Above are dinners coz my kids eat with me. Lunch will be simple like sandwich or oats. I skip breakfast (coz don't really waking up early).

**Fastfood often is almost sure will get high LDL. Some said high LDL 'never mind' but some said 'watch out'. So depending on which camp you are in. Depending on your age and other health indicators then decide what you want to do with that number (1. Let it be / 2. Clean up your diet to see whether got improvement. / 3. Carry on with your diet but take statin.). I am coming 60 yo and so more cautious as I want to delay medication for as long as I can.

ok thanks, sounds like good advise....let me see how i can manage diet better in the context of balancing cost and healthy food ...

i see u eat lotsa rice also and white rice is little different from white sugar...

Let me stabilize my bp to normal level thru diet n IF first then tweak abit and then go for annual test and see how...

I read the LDL is all comes from HDL, HDL becomes smaller smaller till it becomes LDL, granted its the percentage that matter....

My house keeps a variety of rice. Recently a edmer introduced to me black rice and I tried and it tasted good but can't go very well with certain dishes and so I need to 'pair' accordingly.

If you can reduce weight with a means that is sustainable, then most of the BP and LDL issues most likely can be solved together. Need to work on it else as you age further, these numbers will be getting more and more difficult to control.

Good luck!

Take viagra can help with dementia, so maybe can take both statin and viagra together.

Watch some videos by Dr Thomas Dayspring and Dr William Cromwell.

They are well known specialists.

HDL is not really a good marker now.

Stage 1: Drink plain water for 24 hrs. No other food.
Stage 2: Drink plain water for 48 hrs.
No other food.
Stage 3: Drink plain water for 72 hrs.
No other food.

I did this once a month to cleanse and detox. Other days, only eat 1.5 times a day (12pm lunch and 6pm light dinner).
Feel much healthy.and BP drops drastically. Zero medication.
