As this is a life long commitment...

hbp is chronic. u can apply for 85% cpf payment under cdmp ($500 max per year).
i am taking 2 med for hbp:
amlodipline 5 cts per pill (after govt subsidy)
lisinopril 5 cts per pill (after govt subsidy)

i paid below $5 cash for 6 mths med + consultation.
i no insurance.

But after I went for CT scan, found main vein blocked 80 - 85%.
Doctor recommended Stent.
After Ops, gv me 4 types.
1 Aspirin 100 mg.
2 Astorvastatin 40 mg.
3 Omeprazole 20 mg.
4 Bisoprolol Fumarate half of 2.5 mg.

Aspirin (for blood thinning) is a NSAID class = higher risk of upsetting stomach / causing stomach ulcer. So Omeprazole that can 'protect' stomach is usually paired with it.

You need to maintain your LDL at below 70 = your Astorvastatin dose seems to be high to control your LDL (your previous LDL was quite high before the stenting?)

Bisoprolol Fumarate for your HBP.

Usually for heart patients, not easy to get away from the above. My brother managed to 'fend off' the aspirin (and therefore Omeprazole too) as he used to work in an environment where work accidents were 'common'. Doctor agreed as the risk (if accident - may bleed non stop) of him taking aspirin outweighed its benefits and so don't need to take.

Maybe your Astorvastatin can be reduced dosage if you can show doctor improvement in LDL readings (meaning exercise + healthy diet).

My LDL direct serum is 2.2 mmol ( how come your is so high ).
Trilge is 2.8 Random meaning no fasting right ? With fasting much lower, so doctor said take 40 mg statin. I still take 20 mg. Now age 65.

u normal weight how come got hbp? what happened on the day it struck at office?

Now 6 months has passed, my BP is well controlled with meds except for 1 occasions where it hit 170+ due to my toothache

LDL target of below 70 for heart patients - this number is in mg/dl. If converted to mmol is target below 1.81.

My brother's pte cardiologist only gave him STRICT target for LDL below 70 but no target for trigly (that I think his trigly is a bit high for him).

He has been on 10 mg Rosuvastatin for several years (currently late 50s. Previous records of chest pain with high BP and warded. CT showing plaque in heart artery.).

Currently he is under polyclinic's care. Doc there also targeting his LDL to be below 70 (if he can't keep below this number = up statin dosage).




*my advice to you is to observe doctor's prescription and not to adjust dosage yourself (your 2.2 mmol is about 85 mg/dl and trigly looks high too). All these LDL accumulation is over a period of time and once accumulated enough, then things may happen. Discuss with your doc if you want to adjust dosage and let the doc monitor.

walking don't work for all.....

for me, i climb staircase 15 mins. 90 mins weekly

or brisk walk/jog 15 mins + climb staircase 15 mins. 90 mins weekly

I cut Statin myself to 20 mg.
Worry side effects n need to take next 10 years only.
I read after 75 can't take Statin any more

The 'record holder' of the number of stents among my friends is a 60+ yo frn:

5 stents in 9 years.

*you take your 40 mg statin bah coz the benefits outweigh the side effects (if there is any). If really can be lowered to below 70, then bargain with doc whether can adjust to 30 mg and so on. If cannot, then stick to 40 mg (most of the time can but you need to 'prove' to your doc) or worst you may have to increase the mg some more.
