There not be Touch ID on the power button on the top end iPhones. That’s for sure. Apple will only implement in-screen Touch ID but only if they can achieve performance and quality of Apple standard while also making sure yield can meet the volume.

Yeap Apple's style. Overall user experience > new technology

Mine just shipped!

They say shipping partners will be providing contactless delivery - they going leave my 1.6K on my door step??

inb4 like ninjavan, just leave and zao.. don't even bother pressing doorbell

Apple use DHL, got standard one don't need worry. Contactless but the guy will still come knock door and pass you.

Disagree with this statement. Why would Apple wants to implement something not as secured as Face ID?
Fat lot of good all that security does us right now, when we're all masked up. Even an alternative authentication method would be nice. Passcode unlock works but it's not as smooth as using pattern unlock, which should be just as secure.

Samsung s20+ in scree touch id sux
Not very responsive
End up used more face id

Sent from Samsung SM-G985F using GAGT

Which is why Apple hasn’t implemented in-screen Touch ID but when they do, it will greatly enhance user experience and put competition to dust, just like when Touch ID was first launched.

Well with this pandemic, nobody predicted it. By the time it exploded, iPhone 12 was already deep into evaluation and testing so no chance they will add in Touch ID.

Preorder performance has shown even without Touch ID, strong demand can still be seen. So Touch ID is not necessary.

But don't you think including TouchID improves the consumer usage experience during the pandemic? Of course not for iP12, but for later editions....

It is true that the featureset for the iPhones were confirmed long before Covid hit

But saying touchID isn't necessary...let's just agree to disagree there.

Android the term to use correctly should be Facial Recognition. This is very different from iPhone's Face ID.

Android's face recognition is basically just using their software to recognise your face. If I have your photo, I may be able to unlock your phone just by holding your photo against the front cam.

Apple uses the front TrueDepth camera to project over 30000 dots onto our face, sort of like face mapping. Photos can't unlock my phone. Twins can't unlock each other's phone.

I remember these in-depth details quite vividly, separating these 2 technologies coz its that revolutionary when iPhone X was created. The first buttonless iPhone.

Market demand show you otherwise. That’s a fact.

It is true that Android's facial recognition isn't particularly secure, we're talking about the fingerprint sensor though. I've never used a Samsung phone so I can't speak on the accuracy of the in-display sensor but my Huawei one seems to work just fine. And the Sony in-power button one I used years ago basically nailed it.

I don't think that's true that Face ID works as expected for twins https://www.patentlyapple.com/patently-apple/2019/03/apple-advances-face-id-to-be-twin-proof-using-machine-learning-subepidermal-imaging-and-more.html

the thing is, its a bit unusual for Apple to have 2 features to perform the same function: authentication.

and the user experience when having TouchID on a gesture only iOS, is a bit... weird.

take for example the new iPad Air. yes, it has got TouchID, but users who are already used to FaceID on iPad Pro find unlocking iPad Air slower. coz now they have reach (and press) that top button.

I'm also in RnD industry, so i got an idea how they work out. Phones design like this most of the time are decided long ago. Developing and testing take up most of the time. Want to add in a feature is not easy too.

That said, a secondary back up is always good, touch ID is always welcome, either in-screen or button.

This yr google pixel only have one type of security too, just like iphone.

Ninjavan sometimes sub out to deliver, so some really anyhow. I kena before they just drop my item between my door and gate, like at least chest level height and never bother to ring bell. Lucky my item no damage.
