Thanks. That mean a protector is still required?

tbh no..

You don't swipe your cameras like a screen to "use" it

Surface area also smaller so chances to scratch it also smaller

And a camera protector also cause decrease image quality because of the cheap glass they use :o

No, they never did use real sapphire despite advertising them as "sapphire" for past models

It's their own formula of glass that's weaker than sapphire, notice they no longer advertise it as "sapphire" on their tech specs page

Not true.
this is shown on the tech specs of iphone 12
"Sapphire crystal lens cover"
the below link for reference

i am sure it is sapphire crystal. if not the out of work lawyers will have already sued big time.

if you doubt it.. just use your iphone 11 camera back and rub a naked iphone 12 screen. :) you will become a believer ...

Yeah I doubt it because he can scratch it with a level 6/7 Mohs pick...

They're probably getting away with it because their "sapphire glass" is a hybrid or contains some sapphire hence they can call it "Sapphire crystal lens cover"

I mean he literally scratched the camera lens on the video.......

Who is recommending covering the lens with $5 glass?

In fact I recommend not doing that just a few posts above

And wow.. got video evidence by the credible "JerryRigEverything" not any random youtuber, scratching it with a level 6/7 Mohs pick

but "Apple says it's sapphire so it must be sapphire that scratches at level 9!!!!!"

Did you not read my previous reply?

You can believe they're using "sapphire" all you want

What I'm sharing is they're not using the same quality sapphire as found on watches that is 9 on the Mohs hardness

haiz... i can't believe i am replying to this
1) you know how thick is the sapphire crystal on watches?
2) from what i see in the video it can be a fracture instead of scratch. it is common to do a vapour deposit process and it can be a few microns thickness. so it has 9mohs hardness but can easily crack. again i am speculating.
