My iPhone 5' battery drains very fast too, especially during whatsapp. I try to stick to LTE, not because of needing the high speed, but am hoping that the LTE band is not as cluttered as 3G. What I need for my phone is a reliable and consistent connection. I think I will try reset the phone and setup as new instead of restoring from my old jailbroken iPhone 4 backup. Who knows if those background processes are transferred to iPhone 5 too...

Sometimes we see that some have battery problems and some don't. And we wonder why the difference.

I think assuming that there are no hardware problems there are two possible reasons.

The first is that there are background processes that are sucking life in one and not the another. Hence as posted here resetting helps and restoring as new phone helps better, because it makes comparisons between phones fair as both are "new".

The second area is sometime overlooked. Basically even if two phones are restored as new phones, location matters as well. If you put your phone by your bedside in a room where the signal (LTE, 3G etc) is poor, expect more drain than when the phone is placed somewhere where there is a strong signal.

So those lucky with batt life may be literally just be in a "better place".

My theory, may be wrong.

iPhones are never good with battery life... Live with it and get a backup battery pack... no need to off this and that...

if it helps, there are four iPhone 5's in my house. all different usage patterns. i don't game on mine and i toggle data off when home. the rest have all connection enabled and have games running. battery life was horrible for all, until i took the "reset all settings" suggestion. all the iPhone 5's now are having good battery behavior.

currently, mine has 1.5 hours usage and 88% left. standby is 3.5 hours.

My battery was horrible for first few days. 10mjn Facebook 20% battery gone. Went to comm centre but they have no iPhone 5 to exchange. Must wait for 1-2 weeks.

In the end I search all over Internet to fix it.

Culprit is I setup my iPhone 5 using a backup done by my previous iPhone but iOS 5.

Apparently backup done by previous iOS causes my iPhone 5 to run intensively in the background. It got really hot.

Fix: update your previous iPhone to iOS 6 before backing up.

OR

Setup iPhone 5 as new phone. Then import your contacts, emails, songs, apps, pictures etc manually from iTunes.

My battery is ok now. Intensive use 6 hours usage, 6.5 hours standby, now have 42% battery left. 40% brightness, LTE, Push mail, wifi BT on.

Where is your contacts and stuffs stored? If by google, you can do a Exchange or sync using iTunes with one of their functions..

On a whole, better than 4s for sure. A frd told me that after update to IOS 6, the battery life of his 4s cannot even stay for 6 hours.

I do hope there is an update soon. I am getting 30%(estimated) reduction in battery life compared to my previous 4s.
