Nobody got an answer to this?

if you are chinese you shd apply to chinese and if you are other races shd apply others. no way around this for race. its what is written in your IC

each HDB flat got a fix allocation of units for each ethnic group to promote racial harmony. so if the quota is up one cannot apply to that flat.

I take train from Woodleigh mrt everyday during peak hour have no issue getting on leh...

Depends on luck.

I train from Potong Pasir every morning during peak hour.
Tell me about it.
I can snap a pic or video.

Sometimes can squeeze in, sometimes have to wait for 1-3 trains.

For now can squeeze in as the last few pax, do consider when bidadari is up, there will be lots of ppl, also, more residents from punggol and seng kang as well. The situation will only be worsen and not better.
Road traffic as well.

lol, 1 to 3 trains now, maybe wait 3 to 6 trains in 5 years when all the new BTOs are completed in Sengkang, Punggol, Hougang and Bidadari. I think it may even be worse than NS line :s13:.

DTL 3 opening late this year or early next year, hopefully can take some of the load off, especially at the Mattar, Geylang bahru, Bendemeer and Jalan Besar area.

Ppl going west need to wait till 2030 liao for the Cross Island Line.

I eager for cross island line cos planned to have MRT from Pasir Ris to Punggol.

Hi Guys, sorry for wall of text below. I'm quite stressed on this BTO, hope you all can give your opinion..

Now considering either Woodlands or Dakota 4 room flats.. Combined income <5k because my wife still studying. Got 1 kid already.

With grants, the Woodlands 4rm can get around 180k, which is really affordable. Dakota 4rm will be around 470k.

Really don't know which one to get. Currently staying in my mother's landed house in Simei, with my siblings. People always say "wah landed so good, why need to buy HDB" etc but there are a lot of conflicts and unhappiness due to the amount of people living in one house. Sometimes better to have a small house that you can call your own..

We've been wanting our own home for a long time. My mother insist on my family staying in the landed property with her, but if in the future if there huge conflict or the house has to be sold, I will move to the HDB.

I am thinking, since HDB is my backup plan, get woodlands will do. The monthly payment will be much less of a burden.

On the other hand, if I end up moving into the flat, Dakota would be a much nicer location. Traveling from woodlands to everywhere esle would be a huge pain. Once my wife starts working, our CPF should be able to cover the payment for Dakota BTO.

(I hope no one judge me for getting a BTO as a backup plan. I don't think it is illegal. It really isn't a nice feeling to have to endure unhappiness without the choice to move out.)

Of course not, yours is a very genuine case, not many wives can get along with their mothers in law :s13:.

Frankly, it is really tricky in your situation. Even with a combined income of $8K to $9K, a Dakota 4rm flat will max out your contribution and that's provided nobody gets retrench along the way.

How many kids do you plan to have? If 1, a Dakota 3rm will be safer for your pocket. If not, a 4rm in a non mature estate will be assuring for more kids.

Unfortunately you missed the excellent Bedok BTO in Nov 16. Woodlands to Simei or to town is really quite a distance. I'll suggest Sengkang or Punggol as a middle ground.

You can of course go ahead with a 4rm in Dakota this round but it will be challenging on your pocket if you do not have emergency funds from parents.

since you expect your combined income once your wife starts working to be sufficient to pay for the dakota flat, i think you should apply for it as you also prefer it over woodlands and you can make use of PPS. unless you are looking to sell once your flat MOP, you should like where you stay and not be bothered too much by the financial aspects. dakota not just has a great location, it is somewhat in the east, which i believe you would be more familiar with, than woodlands.

BUT you should be confident that payment can be done using just your CPF in the future when the payment starts rolling. with a kid in hand now, and maybe 1 or 2 more before the flat is ready, you might want to have more $$ in your pockets for rainy days.

if this is a backup plan, not much loss to you except $10 if you do not get it. so just try for the one you prefer and can pay for. :)

Does anyone know if the Dakota bto will be affected by those airplanes flying around near paya lebar airbase?

Yes. Every time I go to Old Airport Road hawker to eat and walk to Dakota mrt I will hear the planes' roaring down in the evening. You have to wait until 2030 for the airbase to shift according to the plans.

My relative lives near paya lebar and the sound of the planes are v loud until sometimes cant even hear the tv. the flying is quite frequent too so its quite annoying for me. so I was wondering if Dakota also has the same problem.

Yes, the fighter jets pass by Dakota very often (probably almost Everyday). But I am used to this already. If you cannot take the sounds, then Dakota is not suitable to you.

I've been a Woodlander all my life and it really isn't that bad getting around.

Woodlands to Orchard is around 30mins by mrt. Furthermore you're likely to get a seat for the journey.
If you need to get to Tampines/Bedok/Changi Airport, there are bus service 969,168 and 858 to get you there. Trips would be 40mins on average and again, you're most likely to get a seat.

Jurong East is a 20min mrt ride away.

Over time, you will get used to the travelling time and find it not that bad. :)

I think the 'most likely you'll get a seat' part sounds enticing :s13:

actually i agree with you. everything is about getting used to. however, i do think getting a flat within your financial means is more impt than space. no money is a bigger headache than no space!
