When you connect via finder, it's from the sidebar? That reminds me of bonjour, have you reviewed this article - Fix Wi-Fi Problems in OS X Yosemite | OSXDaily

Especially the following section but I would try each one of them.

If you feel you've exhausted all options, contact back the senior advisor you've spoken to and request for it to be escalated to the engineering team, he/she should request to capture data of your mac to be sent over to the engineering team for further investigation - Best to do it while booted to the clean OS so that they don't have room to blame your 3rd party softwares installed.

I have already read that article and tried some of them, as I said, some worked but for a while.

Apple senior support even said the first method (deleting system config) is wrong and I shouldn't do that.

restarting of discoveryd worked, as some other methods, awhile.

I already lost patience with Apple support, these guys basically can't help anything unless you are really a newbie to OS-X. They never read Apple discussion forums, they are never aware of any 'hot' topics discussed by users in their forums and internet, once you call in, every advisor wants you to repeat the damn issue again and again even you provide them previous ticket number... I have contacted them before 2 times for some other issues, they sent me app to grab data and uploaded to Apple, and... that's the end of my ticket, no email or call follows up. I was told by a senior support that Apple Support Team has NO relationship with Apple engineer. I think those technical issues that Apple Support team can't handle, will be simply filed, only.

BTW, I feel also this is something related to bonjour, that's why I really focused on IPv6 settings in the early days because apple bonjour service relies on IPv6, and the similiar issue actually happened before Yosemite, not in AirPort Utility but in iTunes (iTunes Wi-Fi Sync can't find configed devices).

This is true, do not ever delete the SystemConfiguration folder or you may have issues after a restart.

That's why in that article, advice to move some of the files in that folder to Desktop, for easy recovery in case something happens after restart.

AppleCare staff group rely on discussion forum articles as a guide ONLY(they are not required to participate in it), some of the solutions there may work so take the information with a pinch of salt. If a user only report issues in discussion forums and not call AppleCare to report it, it does not qualify as a "Hot topic" or an "Emerging issue".

The AppleCare Senior advisor that requested to capture data of your machine should be following up with you as he/she is the Main point of contact between the client and the Apple Engineering team. The response from the engineering team may take awhile but you should get a response be it a good response or not.

Just drag your new photo over the current one.

that should work, somehow Apple decided to remove the browse option which I don't understand why.

That's not what I experienced, I have uploaded required data to them once in May and once in September. they simply didn't want to respond me even I sent a couple of emails to that Apple staff's email address to ask for status.

So I guess I will not call them again in the future, unless I have a hardware failure.

That means Apple Engineers are listening to client's complains. :p

Bugs are expected in any system, a good tech company find ways to fix them in a timely manner.

I have no problem with Apple Engineers or software bug. I don't like AppleCare Support.

is this a fresh install or upgrade? a fresh install will usually give better performance as compared to upgrading.

mine is an upgrade..

as mentioned by @ashhong, a clean install would be ideal.

Reason: when you do an upgrade, it's adding on to your existing system, lots of the system files at present are old unused ones.

Then you will ask, what happens to my data? My practice before a clean installation is, do a full time machine backup then after a clean install, I will run migration assistant and only migrate 2 items from the list.

1 - Applications
2 - My own user account

the rest of the items, I will uncheck from the list.

The only stuffs that you will miss are system-wide settings such as network settings etc...

OS X: How to migrate data from another Mac using Mavericks - Apple Support

the pre-release 10.10.1 update messed up my Mail app badly - gmail & exchange accounts behaving erratically even after i removed all accounts and set them up again.

wasted 2 hours to rollback to previous time machine backup.

Will wait for the official release and try again.
