Hi everyone

Recommended Redmi Note 10 Pro to my Auntie because she was previously using Redmi Note 5 and prefers to keep to MIUI. Bought from Lazada Xiaomi Official Store Global in October 2022. Backup and restore from her Redmi Note 5. Since then she is complaining the screen turns off when she is doing a phone call or Whatsapp voice messaging even when she is not holding the phone to her ear.

I did a Google search and found that it may be due to the proximity sensor. Xiaomi acknowledged the problem in 2021 and said it will fix the bug with MIUI update.

Already updated to MIUI Global 13.0.14 Stable and the problem persist.

Did a proximity sensor test in CIT. Test value 5.0 with and without covering the top half of the phone with my hand.

Does anyone here have the same problem and have it resolved or should I pay a visit to Xiaomi service center?

No change to the SIM card in slot 1, but wonderful happen when I were having my meal at McDonald, it connected.

Click on Settings and tap About Phone. Scroll down and tap several times on Kernel version until we get to the CIT menu. Scroll down and tap Proximity sensor.

Check result is 5.0 when the top of the phone is not covered and 0.0 when it is covered.

Yes results 5 and 0 on redmi note 10s..

Can anyone confirm that the global version cannot use the “xiao ai” app?
Seem like it is only for the CN version?

Thank you for checking. Maybe this warrant a visit to Xiaomi service center

i tried on both 10 pro and 10. didnt change to 0, but during normal call screen will turn off when facial is near, which means its working lol

Thank you for checking. I am puzzled why the proximity test result is 5.0 on Redmi Note 10 Pro and Redmi Note 10 but funky05 is able to get 5 and 0 on his Redmi Note 10s. I believe all are using virtual proximity sensor from Elliptic Labs.

Background

Can ask her try using earpiece while on the call, see if screen goes off. Try speaker mode too.

I think if go back service centre, not sure if they'll reformat data

Anyways for me the issue I had was when I answer or make calls, after a few seconds it will auto press mute button.. found it quite irritz, but managed to resolve by itself by the time I find time to go service centre lol

Thank you for your suggestion. I don't think she likes to put things into her ears :)

While searching for solutions, I came across a thread in OnePlus forum about WhatsApp voice note | Display turns off.

Click on WhatsApp and check the options. Mine was on ootimisation, when it should be on Intelligent Control. just choose the 3rd option Don't Optimise, and my WhatsApp voice calls are working ever since. found that under Battery Optimisation setting, the Phone, Signal and Telegram, all were on Intelligent Control and they were working fine. Why OnePlus team decided this Optimisation setting for WhatsApp, the most used app is beyond my thoughts. But this has certainly caused numerous issues with a lot of users and no solution. Any other model and make, please check your battery saving options. They may use different names for Battery saving option. Cheers

hi all, anybody here a user of redmi note 10 5g phone? currently using redmi note 8 pro, still working well, juz seeing if note 10 or 11 is in any way better than my current one?

if not in a rush, can wait to see if rmn12 series is a better replacement for your rmn8pro
