I have read that Galaxy Watch doesn't work very well with non-Samsung Galaxy Android phones especially the Health features?

Non Samsung phones don't have the blood pressure and ECG measurements functions. There's a modded app though from XDA for non Samsung phones but I haven't tried.

5 pro is way too chunky for my liking, so still considering the 44mm. Can I check if anyone used g pay on watch for transport? Can you just tap the watch or need to open the wallet before tapping?

Yes based on my testing, have to open the google wallet app in order for nfc payment to work. I read on reddit some say they don't need to turn on app to work while some say opening app is a must. There is no definitive conclusion why some can some cannot but it seems to be related to country regulations. So the most convinient way like DigDub mentioned is to map the top button to double tap open Google wallet.

Pixel Watch vs Galaxy Watch 5 (Tested and Compared)

For me no contest. The pixel watch's proprietary watch band and locking of data and functions behind fitbid premium paywall just reeks of cash grab. Fitbit integration is the pixel watch main selling point. But for a watch that wants you to track everything in your daily life, they go use such a small capacity battery resulting in such garbage battery life. Only thing the pixel watch beats the galaxy watch, and this is even debatable, is that the pixel watch has a more sleek design. Once again Google has proven that the first generation or iteration of their products tend to be a flop, even though they are already so so late into the smartwatch market.

Same, am looking at watch 5 instead of Google watch. How's the battery life so far on your 44mm?

For my case, i am getting on average 3-3.5 days.

Usage patterns:
1) Dont wear to sleep
2) Daily about 12hrs on the wrist with about 100 WhatsApp notifications per day.
3) GPS on, WiFI off, HR continuously measuring, auto workout detection on

If you wear it to sleep, the battery drain is about 10% over a period of 7-8hrs.

For users who have issues with NFC payments at public transport gantries, maybe can try this. Under NFC settings on the watch, scroll down all the way down to Others "select apps to open with NFC". Turn off Samsung health. Mine work well so far after turning off this feature, maybe it conflicts with the payment feature at some gantries.

But i noticed it takes a while to detect the signal of the NFC.

Some gantry needs to "aim" around to detect. No need to activate Samsung pay if using gpay.

Need to open the app. Some gantry not so sensitive so have to aim around the gantry sensor to let it detect the watch.

So i installed the xda mod to enable ECG and BP measurements on non-samsung phone. Its a very simple 5-10 mins task as long follow the written instructions. Afterwhich you are required to do BP calibration on the watch using an actual BP measuring device. You are required to re-do this calibration every 30 days. I don't know if there is anyway to bypass the calibration step for folks who don't have access to an actual BP measuring device. Feels like too much of a hassle to go through for people who don't require the function as a neccessity.

Also managed to install the actual pixel watch watchfaces onto the watch 5 using adb. There's a total of 18 watch faces but only a couple of them are nice looking and you can't even individually uninstall those you don't like. Uninstalling one will uninstall the package as a whole. When doing anything adb related on the watch, when you are done do remember to turn off adb debugging option on the watch as its a huge battery drain if not turned off.
