We are doing a robotics project that heavily utilize 4g/ 5g. We want to see if 5g is significantly better enough for us to switch. Only Singtel has the stand alone network that has a big enough difference (we think).

However, Singtel requires us to get a $48 plan & 24 month contract which may or not be better for our application. We want to try first before commiting

M1 is for you then... that's the only choice right now.

So which phones or chipset support this SA 5G?
If by device specification, samsung phones like the latest S21 series, selected models of huawei and oppo, do support SA network. But whether the software in singapore has unlocked the feature is another story.

So far, iPhone 12 series definitely don't for now, not sure if software update can unlock this feature or not..

Nope unable to unlock with software since hardware is not available. Only US iPhone 12 supports mmWave.

iPhone 13 will expand mmWave to more regions.

I’ve been on the Singtel 5G NSA trial for a week now and 5G coverage is indeed better than I had expected. If you are in town centres or near major malls, you should see outdoor 5G in the area - many times even in non-central residential areas. Indoor 5G seems to be quite common in CBD buildings I’ve been to (raffles place, shenton way). Network responsiveness / speed has been great, but usually not a noticeable improvement over Singtel’s 4G network unless you’re in time sensitive tasks (like checking in/out via TT app manually) or data intensive tasks (streaming lossless music).

Testing this daily on an iPhone 12. Battery drain is noticeably fast when 5G is in use (video/music streaming). Overall from a device perspective, the trade off between lower battery life and 5G speed improvement is not quite worth it IMO.
