I bought my machine (Resmed airsense 10) from US. After shipping and GST, still cheaper than what I would pay locally. Downside is warranty.

As for extracting sleep data, you can use this software called OSCAR, which was recommended by my ENT. I just transfer the data via SD card and print out for my doctor during my reviews.
Can I ask how much did you pay for the Resmed Airsense 10?

envy you, i lost 35kg within one year also can't be totally cured. I tracked my sleep using Apple watch which is pretty accurate.
For some people, it has more to do with the structure of their airway. Even if they lose weight, the effect might be negligible.

My AHI dropped from 16.2 (Sleep Test) to 0.7, after using CPAP machine for 1 month. Energy and alertness definitely increased in this month. I have better results if sleeping on the sides. If I sleep on my back, my mouth will open and there will be air leaks. I tried taping my mouth before sleep. It's not comfortable and definitely need some time to get used to it if your mouth opens when you sleep.

I'm currently testing the Wellell iX Auto CPAP Machine. This is from Taiwan, previously called Apex. Distributor is Erikg. Rental is $70/month. If you decide to buy a CPAP machine from Erikg, they will deduct the rental from the purchase price. It's not bad but somehow I can't connect to the machine with the app. Sleep technician came and checked and said probably the machine's wifi/bluetooth faulty. If I decide to buy this brand, he will give me a new one. They also sell Resmed.

I'm going for CPAP consultation at the hospital at the end of the month and I will try Resmed from the hospital and it's free for 1 month.

try not to eat 3 hours before bedtime. Let the body get use to fasting for 12 hours a day. Eat enough during the open window period to ensure you do not go hungry at bedtime but do not overeat, If you are too hungry or too full at bedtime or during sleep, the apnea may surface. Nowadays, I fell asleep within 15 mins after bedtime, when I wake up again, it is usually 7-8 hours later without me knowing.

Agreed! I also noticed sleep is better with emptier stomach, but my schedule means I can only eat around 9pm for dinner daily - usually simple cook my own meals after my usual evening runs ( also addictive) after work.
I also follow fasting of 12 hrs everyday by skipping one meal + many methods you can find out there on youtube.

Can I please ask:

1) what model are you using for travel?
2) what is the name of the US website?
3) if you buy online, how do you settle the warranty and repair then?
1) I think you already saw my earlier reply.
2) https://www.secondwindcpap.com/
3) Basically no warranty unless you send it back. So far the Resmed is very reliable. Usually I don't bother with warranty as all plastic and rubber parts will degrade over time. I would just get a replacement if needed.

What prompted you to go for the sleep test? Did someone tell you that you seemed to have stopped breathing momentarily when you were sleeping ?

Definitely sleep apnea. I recorded myself before and heard another 2 people with sleep apnea while sleeping in the same room. All of us have the same pattern: Start of the sleep with very loud snores, then suddenly go very quiet. This is typical of apnea because the breathing has paused so no more snores. Then, your body will gasp for air after some time of no breathing, then quiet again.

If I'm not wrong, the loud snores at the start is the tongue beginning to collapse so the airway starts to get blocked and this causes loud snoring. Once the tongue fully collapses, air intake paused so no more snores. Until your body wakes up momentarily to gasp for air, then you breathe in. But this time, your tongue collapses faster so usually don't hear much snoring, maybe a few snorts then quietness.

and dry mouth, frequent pee.

walking you through...
on the day of sleep test, try not to drink too much caffeine.
on the reporting time, they will do blood pressure, height and weight check
after that assign you a ward for you to put your barang barang and shower if you like, and change to your PJ.
once done, you are to report to the staffs, they will hook up alot of wires to a plastic block that you will be expected to stay close to you, hooking up on to a support stand that used for IV drip kind.

they will lights out at around 10.30pm
Hard to zz at so early post Covid. If I need to have evening calls
Work till6-8 pm
Go back arrive home say 7-8 pm
Dinner 8-9 ish pm

9:30-12 mn is my only free time actually
... the test will end at around 5am.

the room got sound recorder and motion sensor and camera to record your movements and snores.

even on the very night you feel like you didnt get any wink due to discomfort, they will still manage to get some snoring and motion capture to know your deep sleep pattern.

the staff will do morning call by banging on the door to wake you up and along with PA system. the staff will help you unhook the wirings and ask you to wash up and leave ASAP.

wait for your appointment with the doc to review your sleep test... they will then ask if you want to op for CPAP treatment.
follow by payment... no Medisave deduction allow.. tmd.

You can record yourself at night using your phone's voice recorder then compare with the video.

Yes, go to Polyclinic and say you suspect you have sleep apnea and tell the doctor what your friends observed. If you recorded your own sleep using the voice recorder, then show it to the doctor too. But nowadays a lot of people going for sleep test so the appointment will be at least 3 months away. I heard from the sleep technician that some hospitals have a 1-year waiting list.

It depends which hospital. If you go to newer hospitals, the wait time will not be so long but I think minimum 3 months. If you go to established hospitals, then expect to wait 6 months to 1 year.

Another option is to do sleep test at home. This is faster. They will get sleep technicians from the companies selling CPAP machines to hook you up onto a machine at your home and generate a report after 1 night of sleep. But this type of report is not comprehensive. You only know your AHI and number of apnea and hypopnea. Hospital sleep tests can give a very detailed report including your REM AHI versus normal AHI which I think is very helpful. Now I know my apnea is very bad when I sleep on the back vs sleeping on sides and try to adjust my sleeping position accordingly.

For hospital sleep tests, no need to go to established hospital. You just want a report of your sleep and all the hospitals can do the same by attaching wires to your body, let you sleep and generate a report. Nothing difficult about it. Doctors also no need special expertise as they just tell you the severity of your sleep apnea based on the report generated by the sleep test then recommend you to use CPAP machine. Unless you want to go for operation, then that's a different matter.

Great that your friends alerted you now, instead of you finding out years later.

If no one tells you, then your body could be adversely affected by the sleep apnea over time.
