Ok just asking can I use a laptop hdd for my desktop currently since I need to retain my ssd?

yep. keep the SSD, untouched remove from your pc

plug in the hdd to your pc and install windows on it the hdd

fyi, the reason I suggest OP keep the original SSD/HDDs is because it is an offence to destroy evidence relating to an ongoing investigation.

Wow I'm lucky for not reformatting it yet...

If I were you, I would write in to withdraw the police complaint and request they close the matter. Once the police confirm that the matter is closed, you can then move on and do what you want with the SSD.

So u mean actually report to police also no use because they can't do anything? Like catching him or blocking his IP?

well i dont know if they will investigate,

because you want to use your ssd, cancel the police report and re-install windows on the ssd and move on lor

or keep the ssd so they can investigate

its plain simple

If let them investigate at least for how long they keep my ssd?

use another pc, reset all your password, account, email, importance account mainly . make new account using other pc if possible.

reinstall your windows of your "hacked pc"

should be safe.
