Signal and resultant is very dependent on where you place your AP as well as your receiving wireless adapter. E4200 wifi is decent, so unfortunately its either you move or you run the wire and put the linksys elsewhere, either more centrally or preferable nearer to your pc

More "powerful" ap, "boost" etc are not effective solutions when inplement one sided

I suspect he is not even on the new router :/

Hi

-snap-

Then I accessed again the setup page of the E4200 by typing the IP address that was changed to the address field. Then in the setup page, I clicked on Wireless and then Basic Settings and chose Manual . I made sure that the name in the SSID field is the one being used by Huawei wireless router for seamless roaming. I then clicked Save Settings.

After that, I clicked Wireless Tab and then Wireless security. I made sure that the security mode of the E4200 is the same as the Huawei router for seamless routing. Finally I disabled the DHCP server of the E4200 by going to Setup and then Basic Setup.

-snap-

THANKS a zillion!

You Lan to Lan configuration is correct. May be you should try to disable Huawei HG256s' Wi-Fi and leave only the E4200's Wi-Fi on to see how strong is the wireless signal.

Also, try meddle with the channel selection and other suggestions as described in this article.

Additional Test - Bridge Test

My Setup:

Termination Point (TP) -> Optical Network Terminal (ONT) -> D-Link DVG-N5402SP / Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s -> D-Link DIR-855 / EnGenius ESR9850

D-Link DVG-N5402SP - Product Info
Firmware version: SH_1.00B043

Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s
Firmware version: 22.
Hardware version: B

D-Link DIR-855 - Product Info
Firmware version: 1.23
Hardware version: A2

EnGenius ESR9850 - Product Info
Firmware version: 2.1.0 (Application & Kernel)
Hardware version: 1.0.0

Connection:

(ONT) LAN Port 1 -> (HG256s / DVG-N5402SP) WAN Port
(HG256s / DVG-N5402SP) LAN Port 1 -> (DIR-855) WAN Port or (ESR9850) WAN Port

My Configuration - for beginners, read here for full configuration:

(Huawei RG HG256s) - LAN: 192.168.1.1, DMZ: 192.168.1.2
(D-Link DIR-855) - LAN: 192.168.0.1, WAN IP: 192.168.1.2
(EnGenius ESR9850) - LAN: 192.168.0.1, WAN IP: 192.168.1.2

DHCP LAN: Disabled on Huawei RG HG256s (if you want to connect devices as well on the Huawei RG HG256s, do not disable this)
DMZ: Configure DMZ of your router WAN IP @ 192.168.1.2 in Huawei RG HG256s

I just want to thank you for the detailed and excellent tutorial. Really help me alot.

Just want to share my experience. I chose MaxInfinity Ultimate. My connection: (ONT) LAN Port 1 -> (HG256s) WAN Port
(HG256s) LAN Port 1 -> (ESR9850) WAN Port
(ESR9850) LAN Port 1 -> D-Link DHP-306AV (principal socket)
D-Link DHP-306AV - > D-Link DHP-W306AV
D-Link DHP-W306AV - > wired to pc
[I followed your example and upgraded one of the 2dBi antenna with a 2.4GHz 8dBi Indoor Desktop Omni-directional Antenna. the shop didnt have 5dBi antenna that attaches directly to the router :s27:. One 8dBi antenna cost $30 so I decided to get one only and try to stretch the antenna as close to my room as possible.]

From Starhub Speed test, I could only get:

Download Speed: 40361 kbps (5045.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 41676 kbps (5209.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
PING: 36 ms

Maybe there is too much interference from my tv and other components near my router. I'm not sure, tomorrow the tech will be replacing my HG256s to DVG-N5402SP. Hopefully I will get a better wireless range.

How to login into your Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s router?
Open any Internet Browser (IE, Firefox or Chrome) ensure that there are no proxy settings set to it and enter (default: 192.168.1.1)

How to login into your D-Link DVG-N5402SP router?
Open any Internet Browser (IE, Firefox or Chrome) ensure that there are no proxy settings set to it and enter (default: 192.168.0.1)

Configuration for basic users (you can change this if necessary):
on 3rd party Router WAN IP:
Static IP
IP Address: 192.168.1.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.1.1 (point to Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s gateway IP)
Primary DNS: 192.168.1.1 (point to Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s gateway IP)
MAC address: some router requires this input - enter in accordingly from Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s > Status > Device Information > Device Information > MAC address

on Huawei Voice Home Gateway HG256s:
Basic > LAN > DHCP >
IP Address: 192.168.1.1
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Advanced > NAT > DMZ >
Host Address: 192.168.1.2 (3rd party Router IP)
DMZ: check/tick

if you are still confused, just configured EVERYTHING the SAME as above and you will not go wrong.

So the SH tech changed my HG256s to DVG-N5402SP yesterday. Now I'm confused as how to configure the settings.

My Connections:
(DVG-N5402SP) LAN Port 1 -> (ESR9850) WAN Port
(ESR9850) LAN Port 1 -> D-Link DHP-306AV (principal socket)
D-Link DHP-306AV - > D-Link DHP-W306AV
D-Link DHP-W306AV - > wired to pc

1. DVG-N5402SP's and ESR9850's default ip are 192.168.0.1
In the beginning I could see Dlink internet page when type in 192.168.0.1 but after connecting ESR9850, only the Engenius page came out.

2. Changed ESR9850's static LAN ip to 192.168.0.2
Can log to Engenius when I type 192.168.0.2 but 192.168.0.1 doesn't go to Dlink page, instead error.

Should I give up on ESR9850 altogether and connect DVG-N5402SP direct to my homeplug adapter? My PC's wireless card couldn't pick up DVG-N5402SP's wireless signal so I need the homeplugs :s22:
I just didnt want to waste my ESR9850 :s11:

Since both DVG-N5402SP's and ESR9850's default LAN ip are 192.168.0.1, you have to change one of them to different LAN ip range, for example:

(Dlink DVG-N5402SP) - LAN: 192.168.0.1, DMZ: 192.168.0.2
(EnGenius ESR9850) - LAN: 192.168.1.1, WAN IP: 192.168.0.2

on EnGenius ESR9850:
Static WAN IP
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (point to Dlink DVG-N5402SP gateway IP)
Primary DNS: 192.168.0.1 (point to Dlink DVG-N5402SP gateway IP)

on EnGenius ESR9850:
Static WAN IP
IP Address: 192.168.0.2
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway: 192.168.0.1 (point to Dlink DVG-N5402SP gateway IP)

Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

Advanced > NAT > DMZ >
Host Address: 192.168.0.2 (EnGenius ESR9850 Router IP)
DMZ: check/tick

I couldn't configure the IP on ESR9850, I tried changing from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.0.2, the error "Invalid IP" came out. I tried changing the default gateway from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.0.1, same error. I give up.

I tried changing the IP in DVG-N5402SP, a mistake, now I can't even go into the online page. 192.168.0.1 (default) or 192.168.1.1 (changed) all dont work :s11:

Luckily the internet connection got 'repaired' by window.. but now the default ip of DVG-N540SP is unknown. I can't press the reset button right? :( So what should I do? :s11:

As a consolation, my speed tests showed much better results:

Download Speed: 58993 kbps (7374.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 37844 kbps (4730.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
PING: 18 ms

I bought a cheap T-Link 300Mpbs wlan adaptor to use instead of using the wlan card that comes with my 3 month old Dell pc and the speed improves a lot achieving average 45Mpbs with my SH 50Mps plan. I found out the Dell wlan adaptor was restricted in speed (probably only G type). you may want to check on your pc's or laptop's wlan adaptor?

To find out the IP of your DVG-N5402SP, run "ipconfig" under command prompt, eg:

Microsoft Windows [Version 6.1.7601]
Copyright (c) 2009 Microsoft Corporation. All rights reserved.

C:\Users\User>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Link-local IPv6 Address . . . . . : fe80::809:6554:426e:ee
IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.85
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.2.1
The default gateway is the router ip address, in this example: 192.168.2.1

To reconfigure the routers, you have to remove the cable connecting the dlink LAN port to esr9850's WAN port first, then connect the cable to any of the lan port of the respective router to configure!
