Shouldn't be, Mi-Recovery will get replaced with TWRP at step-3, you must have perform additional task at that point.

Is your phone Redmi 1 model and did you download the correct TWRP version?
---

Yes mine i Redmi 1 model exactly same as yours.
these are my 2 files used:
HM1SG-TWRP-2.5.0.0-stas2z.zip
beta-SuperSU v.2.49 (is this the right file?)

Will try to download the files again and try again tonight.

Yup, just follow the steps accordingly especially when it come to Mi-Recovery at step-3, just select reboot without doing anything extra.

For those who are still stuck in trying to get their Redmi 1 to root, might want to give this a try.

Download this and follow the following instruction:
1. Download copy the files to your Phone memory
2. Go to updater app
3. Select Menu (ie. "...")
4. Select update Package
5. Select pathway to files
6. And select install
7. After Reboot

Enabled ROOT Mode:
1. Go to Security app
2. Select Permission
3-1. (V5) Enabled Root permission
3-2. (V6) Install application Root Check to check Root from Security Permission

I have not tested this package as my phone is already root. Let me know if this work.

Ok, managed to solve the problem. In Step 2, do not choose update package cause it will auto reboot after installation. Just reboot to recovery, install update (twrp).
After successful installation, remove battery and wait for 5 sec. Power up and straight away reboot to recovery (power + vol down). You should see twrp.. enjoy..

Hello, interested in getting a xiaomi redmi 2. How is the performance? I'm gonna use it as a spare phone(for the dual sim & google map navigation when driving). Is the redmi 2 enough or should i get the redmi 2 Enhanced? I will not be downloading any apps. Can i put a nano sim in the sim card tray?

Please search before posting, this thread is all about Redmi 1 only.

This is which ROM? I am looking at the MIUI forum. The global latest is JHBMIBL31.0 (V5). Singapore is JHBMIBH25.0 (V5).

I am thinking to flash the the latest updates before I pass it to my mother to play

You wouldn't find it there as Xiaomi is too lazy to even bother to update the info. Actually the latest stable release for Miui v5 is JHBMIBL31.0 but for some reason it was removed. I think the global one should work on SG set but never try it.

Anyway back to your question, the ROM is Miui v6 stable (HMWSGGlobal_V6.6.1.0.KHBMICF). It can be download from Xiaomi official site here.

If that's the case then better to stick to Miui 5 v25 and below. Or better still, switch to "Lite Mode" if she simply using it to made call/sms.
