Disadvantages for Usb Analog TV Stick:

low resolution since bandwidth for USB2.0 is small and resolution is low. No problem if you watching from a small window. If you watch on full screen, the image quality will be grainy. Analog raw signals take up almost the full bandwidth of the USB2.0 port.

So better get PCI card is you want normal or high resolution.

However, there is no such problem with DVB-T usb tuner. Maybe the decoding of the already compressed digital signals is done in computer. DVB-T can also get HD quality via USB port.

I using the Keenhigh DVB-T usb2.0 tuner from cybermind. cost around 20-30 dollars only. Think the box states Executive DVB-T usb Stick. The installation CD only has Windows XP driver but the driver can also be used in Windows 7.

It is using the discontinued ULi M9206 chipset. But the driver provided is for ULi M9207 chipset. Maybe that's why it works in Windows 7.

Problem is the TV Jukebox software provided cannot be used on Windows 7. So has to find other TV software. Luckily Windows 7 and Vista has a Microsoft Media Centre which allows you to watch liveTV from TV tuner but cannot set to wide screen display.

To receive HD signals, you need to install third party HD codecs first. If you did not install the HD codecs, then the usb tuner cannot detect HD5 HD8 signals.

the magnetic antenna provided is weak if used alone but if u stick it onto the backframe (metal grids)) of a big fan (like a satellite radar dish), it is a very good antenna. But need position it to point at a direction where signal strength is strongest.

The Windows Media Center that comes with Windows 7 have a built in H.264 / MPEG4 codec / decoder. So that there is no need to install additional codecs to view HD channels.

But whats good about the Media Center is the amount of info that you can view in the EPG of digital channels such as TV guide, some programme descriptions, etc...

Using Kworld UB424-D USB hybrid turner with Soundtech TVA-600 indoor/outdoor antenna.

For digital, receive over 5 channels including digital 5, digital 8, digital CNA, HD5 and other test HD5 channels in 720. Reception fantastic.

For analogue, receive all singapore sd channels but reception poor. Can also receive malaysia channels including 7 and TV3. TV3 is ok. Overall receive over 10 SD channels. Malaysia got a lot of SD channel.

Can also receive teletext. Can do timeshift recording.

Can record HD5 in .ts format (full HD resolution). But large file size has to be play back by cyberlink powerdvd on PC (one full HD5 movie with advertisement come up to over 30GB. But I use AVS4You to convert the movie to other smaller size format). Play back on ACRyan PVR 76120 no issue (play back .ts file). HD5 movies play back on HD TV is fantactic with 5.1 somemore. Antenna use on ACRyan can receive HD5 as well.

Supply antenna by Kworld and ACRyan cannot make it. TVA-600 is a power antenna. People looking for digital antenna should consider TVA-600. About 48 in SLT.

I got the AverTV Digi Volar X from Laser. Plugged in the USB device to ubuntu pc, detected & installed driver correctly, scan for channels, got nothing. Moved the devie to a winxp pc, detected & installed driver correctly, scam for channels, got nothing again/ All with the tiny antennae that came with the box. Staying in Yew Tee, Choa Chu Kang area.

Does that mean I need a special antennae? Where or what model to get?

Any way I can input the channel information below manually?

Hi, everyone.

I am interested in getting a tv tuner to connect my starhub digital box to the cpu so that I can watch using my PC monitor. Of course, I hope to be able to record the shows, that's why I want to use tv tuner instead of buying a new TV.

My old samsung TV died a few months ago and I heard that nowadays can use the pc to watch tv. Anyone can recommend a digital tv tuner usb type? budget less than $150..?
