If i run slmgr/dlv and the descriptions listed the product key channel as retail does it mean that i can reinstall the windows 8.1 using the current cd key on my new pc?

Because i am building my room in Aug so planning to delay the Win 10 update.
Or has anybody tried G2A and actually bought a windows cd key that actually work?

Thanks for the help!

Yes, you can reinstall Windows 8 on new PC. You will still need to call Microsoft to activate.

I have bought 3 Windows 8.1 Pro keys from G2A.com. Two have activated successfully and since upgraded to Win 10 Pro. I'm keeping the third one as a spare.

To expand on elijahonli's question, does the windows 10 upgrade require a microsoft account login in windows 8.1? Or a local account will suffice?

I noticed I have one folder with that windows.bt something name. But have yet to be notified regarding the time to upgrade. I assume I can choose to wait for my turn to be notified in the coming days?

You can wait or you can try to run the setup file or download the iso and upgrade using that.

When you upgrade over an existing, activated copy of Windows 7 or Windows 8.1, the Setup program checks the current activation status. If it determines the installation is properly activated, it contacts the Microsoft Store and generates a license certificate that is linked to that hardware. (A Microsoft Account is not required for this step.)

This automatic activation process is identical whether you use an ISO file to start the upgrade or do so from the downloaded upgrade files.

After that first activation is complete, you can perform a clean install on that same hardware using an ISO file, which has a product key embedded in it. As long as the hardware matches the previous installation ID, the installation is activated automatically. (Microsoft does not provide details of what goes into the hardware ID, except to confirm that it does not contain any personally identifiable information and is not used for tracking purposes.)

You should have chosen to keep your existing files and programs. The DVD will then be used to upgrade Win 8.1 to Win 10. After this has been done, you can then do a fresh install if necessary.

It that same as upgrading from the get windows app?

I can't remember that off hand, because win7 got ultimate also. I need to check (isn't in the breifing notes)
Here's the breakdown:
Windows 7 starter, home basic, home premium will receive windows 10 home

Windows 7 professional/ultimate will get windows 10 pro

Windows 8/8.1 will get windows 10 home
Windows 8/8.1 pro will get windows 10 pro

Just like in Windows 8/8.1, in a few days (or months) u'll start seeing third-party skins that allow u to 'revert' to Win8.1/8/7/Vista/XP/2000/98 desktop looks.

There's less stuff on win7 right... Haha. Well they can't possibly please everyone, they already tried by combining their iconic tiles from 8 with legacy windows concepts :)
