Hi, I have a question about storage heaters.

I will be moving into a HDB jumbo unit soon and will be renovating the place. But the layout of the house is where the 2 toilets are at both ends of the house, not side by side.

In this case, can I still install 1 storage heater and lay pipes to all toilets?

Not sure if you wanna do that.. the hot water will take a long time to reach the further toilet.. you'll waste alot of water. Imagine you need to turn on and wait like 20sec for the cold pipe water to flow through before hot water comes in everytime..

Really good point. I haven't used a storage heater before.

But I thought about it. Instead of getting 1 30L storage heater, I might get 2 15L heaters instead. Also no point heating up 30 liters of water just for the users on one side of the house.

To be honest, 15L is pretty small. If just normal shower, it should be fine. But if use rain shower, advise to go for 25 or 30l to be shared by 2 bathrooms on each side of your jumbo. Cost is not that much more compared to the 15 l type.

Thanks for the tip. I'm looking at Champs storage heaters. I recalled hearing good reviews with this brand.

Anyway, how about instant water heaters with rain showers. Are they very noisy with the DC pump?

I'm staying in new bto where toilet is side by side. The water takes like 7-10sec to reach the toilet next door.. for jumbo flat with toilet at least 10+ meters away with many bend.. I think 20sec will not be a too farfetch estimation.

It really depends on your family showering habit.. does anyone likes to take long shower? Die die need rain shower? How often do you have people taking shower continuously? You really need shower for both toilets?
Instant for one toilet where you don't use often and a good storage with rain shower for the toilet you will shower often may be better?

yes its normal. there will be ignition at the gas heater itself so u will hear fire burning sound like a gas stove turning on. i believe your gas heater placed in the service yard for a HDB.

i am using the macro gas heater myself.

Hi people - currently we use Ariston storage water heater. I am planning to replace it with one or two instant water heaters (5 room HDB). Any good advise on the nice brand and model to consider?

Main preference being safety and good water pressure.

Thanks in advance for the advise.

Hi guys
I have been using Ariston 30L storage heater since I moved into my house. But first one lasted around 5 years only. 2nd one 4.5 years. 3rd one is the Ariston Lux 30 lasted only 3.5 years! All started to have corrosion and leak!
Please dun buy Ariston. Made in Italy so what!
Can someone share experiences of brands/models that last super long? I need a replacement desperately!

Are you talking about heating element corrosion? Am using joven which lasted 8 years. Few months ago suddenly stopped working. I opened up the cover saw the heating element was corroded and water dripping out also. Luckily thermostat pcb was still in good condition. So just change the heating element and thermal fuse and everything is ok.

Hi didn't open the cover as I felt not safe to continue to operate. But the leak quite big.

Can refer to the user manuals for steps how to safely open the cover or check youtube videos so you can know which part caused the problems. For safety, remember to cut off the power supply to the storage water heater before doing any work, wear hand gloves, wear slippers. You can empty the storage water heater water to stop the leakage problem, turn off the cold water supply to the storage water heater, turn on pressure relief valve and turn on hot water shower head to discharge old water. Let it runs for abt 10 15 minutes. If still can't, get worker to help you.

Thanks for the info. Now all water flushed and tap closed. But will not open the case as I am not sure how to in the first place. Ariston say whatsapp a number and told me that weekend nobody...😭so now waiting for reply and hopefully no extra cost...

Welcome, if you repair or change a new one, if possible, ask the worker to remove the heating element to show you, cos there is a plastic ring at the heating element head tt likely to cause the water leakage. After few years, the plastic material likely to be broken and create gap to cause water leakage.

Hi,
Ariston finally responded and is coming on Wednesday to assess the situation. However at that timing I'm not at home so may not be able to assess the actual corrosion point. They might replace the tank if it is tank leak. There is still workmanship cost of $150.

Anyway, my stand is still that there is really a issue with Ariston. I hope next time I can change to a much better brand and hope some of you can share your experiences with other brands.
