Any brand recommendations for gd quality water tank heater?

My hse using joven water heater tank for past 3-4yrs and 1 day it suddenly stopped working. Whenever we turn on the water heater the whole house electricity will trip....
Using AOS with smart panel for the past 3years. Very satisfied with it especially when you can see how much hot water left in tank and determine if you need to switch heater on or not.

im wondering does the tank saves more money when comes to electric bill? I been using tank and now change to instant. felt its easier to maintain and also lowering of electric bill. but those tanks I had was from like last 10years. so tech may have advance and save electric.

however didnt have experience with current tanks. maybe someone can share
Most likely because for older tank, there's no indication of how much hot water and no sensor in the system. So people just turn the heater on for prolong period and heater just keeps heating. New tank (e.g. AOS) comes with sensor and indicator to allow user to set temperature and the tank will not over heat once temperature is reached. User can off heater when there's enough hot water. Also the tank insulation is solid, can keep 50degree water overnight 14-16hrs and still hot the next day (I know cause has indicator) so you don't need to turn on heater for morning shower. I believe it will save alot of electricity

Bought smart Wifi wall switch to replace water heater old switch
20A. Install the App Ewelink. Features auto timer and Auto Schedule and notification when on/off. Cheap cost @ $21. but Require Neutral wire. Tap from power socket. now Any normal water heater can suddenly become smart water heater.;)

I did the same, but not wall switch type. I installed the SonOff next to the heater. So if needed, my wall switch will turn off both heater and SonOff.

any recommendation on smart water shower device?

Prefer gadget that can be self-DIY install without plumber
Basic Feature to report water usage & temperature ideally can extend function with opensource or IFTTT ?

Found in Amazon this Amphiro A1/ Pani Smart Water Monitor
which appear to be popular :s13:
sorry i dun hv enough post count to include the amz links but can google it.

anyone using these or similar water reporting devices
kindly comment on their pros & cons. thks! 🤔

I just use standard heater plus SonOff. Would not call it smart, but just making use of timer function provided by eWeLink to turn on heater heater at specific time.

I started with SONOFF pow R2. Which is supposed to support up to 16A. However, I found the relay contact point get burn out after some month. So now I am on same model, but output of SONOFF is used to picked another AC relay (rated 25A) to control the heater.

This is why I say 16A is not enough for heater. As heater in rush current can be higher then rated when turning on.

In fact, with the external relay. I no longer need R2 model, just a basic model (rated 10A) will do the same job and the external relay need little current to control.

Is AO Smith water tanks good quality and long lasting?

I saw claims that their product can last for up to 10yrs easily.

Thanks for sharing.

to save on installation fees, advisable to buy back the same brand and possibly same successor model e.g same size, same mounting and DIY, remember the basics of 3 pin electrical wiring and switch off mains before working on it. hardly nothing can go wrong in a year

Wad if the old brand is a lousy and unreliable brand that breaks down within less than 5yrs of usage?
