Local retail options within your budget:
Ed et Al (Good Year Welt)
Atelier LLYR (Good Year Welt)
Earnest Collective (< $200 for cemented sole)

Fairly safe and classic looking options. Mostly double monkstraps. Assume that's what you are looking for as it is kind of the rage now in SG.

i too belong to the Topy camp for mostly pragmatic reasons:

1) safety; increased grip while walking, especially on smooth surfaces like marble. loose your footing a couple of times and you'll understand

2) protection of the sole against water. in our tropical island setting, high likelihood of getting caught in the rain and leather soles are just really hard to fully air dry out

3) extending the life of the soles; re-welting just isn't an economical option here. blake stitch constructed shoes also don't hold up well against repeated sole changes VS welted construction (do correct me if i'm wrong on this point). it's pretty straightforward to replace a front half rubber sole when worn out and much much more affordable

where to get these as no-show socks?

i usually see them being sold in those push cart stalls in various malls. you'll be able to find them on e-commerce sites easily as well, search for the term 'toe socks' and viola!

if you're looking for performance athletic quality and build, there is a brand called 'injinji' you can check out

Hi veteran here, I am planning to get my very first pair of leather shoes and have try do some read up.

After looking through some of the choices online I am interested in getting the pair below but have problem deciding the size.

https://www.skoaktiebolaget.com/collections/carlos-santos/products/carlos-santos-hazel-dress-shoe

Bascially most of my normal running shoe and normal leather shoe size is US size 9 EU 42. I also understand that carlos Santos advise that their shoe size is one full size for US sizing.

But I want to be sure to get my size one time right from this online purchase. So hope someone can recommend me a physical shop for me to try out the sizing as close to carlos santos.

Thank you in advance

Seamless Bespoke has Yanko and Enzo Bonafe. After trying them, you might just forget about Carlos Santos and get a pair there :s13:

Try Yanko can already lah. Don't poison him with EB for his first pair... :D

Brown captoe oxford Yanko has these:

And in the working world where 90% are wearing black shoes, I guess sooner or later you will get one of these:

If you really want Carlos Santos then you can try asking The Quarters if they have any stock for you to try and purchase. If willing to up budget then like some of the broad said, try Yanko.

Agreed, for first pairs or more try not to buy online as there are so many variations which can affect the fit. Too tight you will not wear them again, too loose you need to improvise.

Once you are confident of your fit for that last by all means source for the best deals.

I have quite a few pairs now and I cannot tell for sure if I am a 6, 6.5 or 7 :)

Yanko is comparable to Carlos Santos so do yourself a favour and check out Seamless Bespoke. You may walk away with a Enzo ! A mystery maker is going to be announced in 2 weeks so more options locally.

There is a local retailer selling CS, the quarters.sg so check them out
