Spent the wkend with my friend's Xiaomi MiBox (4k ver) which is the latest. He brought it back from China.
Anyway, here's my thoughts and experiences on the MiBox:
Why would you get a MiBox?
Honestly speaking, comparing the MiBox to other Android boxes such as the Minix. I personally do not see the hype.
1. Its OS is locked. I have better flexibility with a standard clean Android box. You can actually root the Xiaomi Box. Somebody posted here the exact instructions but its mostly in Chinese. Please check earlier posts. Without rooting, you can still install apps. I wanted XBMC as my main objective and it worked beautifully.
Since i did not root, i think anything that required Google Play Store is restricted such as YouTube. There are alternatives ... please check link below for tons of good info.

2. Despite its 4K capabilities, i see no need for it. I do not have a 4K TV, and more importantly content.
3. I do not find ICNTV interesting as my XBMC suffice my needs.
How to install apps?
Install Snappea on your PC (
SnapPea | Your Android, in Windows) and connect to MiBox via USB cable. Transfer your apks (which you should have already downloaded) to the MiBox. Done.
Getting an English menu/interface?
Install TuZi 兔子桌面 (
?????????APP????-???? ????) via Snappea
To make the Tuzi as default launcher
1. Power off the Mibox (turn off main power switch)
2. Hold down "Home" + "Menu" button, and power on the switch
3. Menu appears, choose to reboot
4. A menu appears, and ignore the RECENT version. Choose the other one.
5. The box restarts and a launcher prompt will appear. Choose Tuzi & the option "Always"
I think there may be an easier way. But the above worked for me.
Hope my blurry pics do help those who need guided help.
