Couldn't resist after price drop. Just bought Mi 5 (3+64GB) from MBK Center in Bangkok for around $360 after conversion.

Fantastic build quality and specs for something relatively cheap. Home button/fingerprint scanner a bit cheap and tacky looking but I can live with that.

Had official China stable rom installed (I checked it was official). Was researching whether to flash Global rom or Xiaomi EU rom but decided to give the China rom a go as I heard it has the best performance and fewest bugs.

So I did a factory reset and then installed MIUI v8 update. Configured all the settings, uninstalled some of the Chinese apps I didn't need, copied all my files, installed Google Play Services apk, and updated everything.

I am really impressed. Dual SIM 4G+3G works perfectly (local DTAC sim and Singtel sim), everything is super smooth and fast, battery life is fantastic (getting 2 days average usage with no gaming), display is nice, camera is good, IR blaster is great to have.

Impressed with MIUI v8 as well. Never used MIUI before and read a lot of negative things about it but I quite like it. Notification panel and menus have a nice colour scheme, it's snappy and smooth, plenty of useful features and tweaks. I'm not a fan of the MIUI launcher though as it looks really boring and I prefer more icons on each screen, so will be installing another launcher soon.

One point to note, the charger it came with is slow and gets hots. When charging the charger and the phone got very hot and estimated charge time from 20% was over 2 hours. So I am now using the charger from my previous phone (LG, 5v 1.8a) and it charges much faster (a little over an hour) and yet the phone is a lot cooler...

Try the Aukey 36w 2 port QC3.0 charger. 45 mins can charge around 75%.

Seem more like a xiaomi phone to me. IPhone doesn't have the option to show the amount of data bring used (0.02K/s in this case).

Xiaomi mi series has good hardware but all their phones are smeared by their lousy and buggy miui.

Agreed. Miui development and fix is real slow.

I'm using a Redmi 1s when I posted the quoted screenshot. I customize my status icon to iOS-style as it looks better via the MIUI Themes app.

As regarding the Singtel 3G, Redmi 1s only support up to 3G so I'm sort of restricted to 3G while my plan is a 4G plan during that time.

Looks like you are on development rom.
Never like this, update too frequently and hardly has any bug fix.

Same here. This is due to latest Android pay. If your phone unlocked bootloader, it treated as rooted and block the transaction.

Yes, I able to lock the bootloader.
But today at sheng shiong, the reader can't detect my phone, weird. Previously with unlock bootloader, it can detect with failed message.
Going to reinstall android pay and try again.
