oic, any place to recommend? Preferably in Ubi, macpherson, paya lebar area.
Foon moved ... previously at Macpherson, now at Synergy @ KB, but still within your preferred areas.

And no, hooking up a Pioneer DVDHU to stock paper speakers won't give you any improvement ... nothing that you'll be able to hear anyways.

Foon Audio Garage?

Main things are, I want to be able to install a rear camera & video out to the HU & also be able to connect my android phone.

Btw, how much is a set of speakers? Budget $400, no need sub.

Thanks

Yes, the one and only Foon.

Y'know, I'm probably the worst person you can ask about budget stuff, if you actually bothered to read this entire thread :s13: My tweeters alone are already in the 4-figures territory

But from what I remember, $400 isn't going to get you lower-mid tier speakers, and entry-level stuff is honestly a waste of time and money and I'd rather you stick with your stock paper speakers. Something lower-mid tier like Focal Polyglass already costs $600 or close to, I believe? Stick with stock for the time being and save up a bit more for something decent.

i think this thread need some recommendations of ICE shops. Several years back I was burned badly when I approached a supposedly well known ICE shop but was kenna robert for a very mediocre setup.

being a noob to ICE, it's hard to differentiate which shop are offering honest and good deals from those shops that are trying to chop u

Maybe you should share which shop and what setup you're running. And when you need recommendations you should probably share what you're looking to get next. No point going to higher-end branded installers just to install a HU, or to get a lower-end setup, although some like Foon do charge reasonably for basic stuff.

Talking abt high installers, is Foon considered one of them?
I probably getting a mid range HU. Lots of high end vehicles in their FB pic.

When I say that an installer is higher-end or branded I'm referring to those who are often win trophies in competitions ... These are installers are known not only for tuning, but also for workmanship of higher standard than your regular neighbourhood shops. These are also the people you go to if you are looking at doing heavy customisation work that involves fibreglass.

The usual suspects in this category are guys like Chuan Sing (I personally won't recommend anyone go there though, but it's a matter-of-principle thing), Dynasty, New Generation, Dimension, Soundwerkz, and of course Foon. There are a couple others, but at this time these are the ones I can remember :s13:

Anyways, out of all of these, Foon is probably the only one I'd recommend for mid-tier audio stuff. Don't need to feel intimidated ... if you're the shop owner would you showcase the good stuff, or would you put up Today's Project is a basic HU install? ;)

Was thinking if I should post this in some more recent thread but figured I'd just post in my own :s34:

I had a bit of a scare when my HU stopped working completely yesterday, no power, nothing ... thing is, I was pretty sure it was working in the morning on my way to a job and then when I got back to the car after the job around lunch time it was like that :(

Was already searching for a 2nd hand unit in some car club forums over the rest of yesterday evening, at the same time I checked out the latest models and was thinking if I should buy a brand new unit and maybe transfer it to my next car when I do change car ... 2 years remaining on this car's COE :slant:

Interesting to note, the latest generation of Pioneer DVDHUs and a couple from Alpine with built-in GPS have FLAC support now. I think it's about damn time ... even the highest quality MP3 loses to FLAC. Only problem is, none of the competition/reference grade players come with it ... Alpine's "audiophile grade" player is still the D800E, and Pioneer's highest end ones are still the same ODR and the P99RS. I'm hoping either or both release a new competition/reference grade player with FLAC support soon ... I'd definitely buy it.

Anyways, I went to Soundwerkz this morning and Kelvin got 1 of his guys to help me confirm if it was not a blown fuse or some wiring problem ... turned out my car's power cable was dead somewhere along the length. No idea how that happened, but they helped to pull a new cable, and my HU is working again :s34:

FYI Soundwerkz has moved from the previous 1st floor unit at Sin Ming Autocare to the 4th floor.

good to see this thread somewhat alive.......
it's damn hard to read up anything on ICE in Singapore
one poisonous forum to share :

http://www.diymobileaudio.com/forum/build-logs-project-install-gallery/

not in SG though
Westerners' ideas of SQ are very different from those of over here (and M'sia and Thailand). For starts, most of them think our concept of staging in competition judging is bull$#!t, but when we look at how some of their trophy-winners install their tweeters and mids in weird places like in the kick-panels in the name of "custom install" we shake our heads.

Anyways, yeah it hasn't been the same since sgsoundsystem went offline. But then again there was too much drama from too many industry insiders in there back in the day, and the only thing worth using it for was their buy-sell folders, and even then it was plagued with M'sian parts traders lowballing the hell out of everything to bring back to M'sia to sell.

Well ... maybe there will be something new some time in the near future ... and I may be involved in it in some capacity. Maybe :s34:

not really comparing their thinking of SQ with us, SQ is very personal, i think. but i think it's a very good place to see their works in DIY. Custom panels, custom pillars, and their worksmanship is very good, even just DIY in their own garage.
and their cable arrangement is so pretty

please get something new.....please get involved :)
by the way, i just got myself poisoned again yest, lol :)

Just to update ...

I approached Uncle Bob, back in the day 1 of the stalwarts of the car audio community and 1 of my favourite people, to be involved in a new car audio community project, but he declined. I take it he too has given up on this expensive hobby :(

I don't see any familiar old faces in MCF either ... it looks like the good ol' days of excitement being in the local car audio community have died off :(

Thanks for sharing.

I still remember the good old sgsoundsystem website and it was bookmarked as always in my computer.

I missed the good old ICE days and wonder how many shops and people of such interest are still around.

Need some advice!

Need some advice!

I'm buying my new car and I'm thinking of re installing my old setup in it.

My old setup:
Audio system F4-380 -> Helix P236
Steg K201 -> Genesis 12" sub

But while waiting for my COE to be bided, I'm so bored and I started looking at the latest "toys". My new car will come with Pioneer 8850 which cant really run 2 way active well I think so I probably will get a Helix DSP processor to run active setup.

I'm really torn whether to:
1) Stick with my old components and run 2 way active
2) go 3 way active with either Focal K2 power or Focal PS165K3 (getting really popular since its released this year)

Is 3 way really worth the money?

Also I'll probably be doing some tuning myself. :)

I want to upgrade a set of speakers from my original one. What is cheap and good? I do not want a boomtube, just decent speakers with good sound and good bass that can be put in door. budget <$200

I'm not sure I'm getting this right, I tried checking the pages in front and behind and all I'm seeing is you laying your speaker and speaker holder cup on top of an unmodified A-pillar ... how is this 70%?

Also, I read in that thread that you're going to DIY ... how exactly are you planning to do that? And why do you need to buy another pair of stock A-pillars to mod, you can always use the original ones from your car 1st and only buy brand new replacements when you want to revert to stock :s22:

I get the feeling you would have been better off buying those aluminium pods.
