On the other hand, the vulnerabilities mentioned are not a real problem if using the router in AP mode or a switch behind a router, as you would not able to access the device from WAN side normally.

Attack surface is greatly reduced for non-WAN facing devices, but still can't dismiss all hell breaks loose once such as the IoT-menacing-ever mutating-self-propagating worm Mirai botnet gets its foothold on a corporate/internal network from other compromised devices :s22:

Hi,

Appreciate some advise. Thanks in advance.
Current using Singtel 1Gbps Fibre. ONT is ZTE. Router is Singtel AC Plus. Also using Airties 4920.
Sometimes the wifi signal in the master bedroom just dropped off. I have to turn the airties in the room off and on again, to get back the wifi. It happens everynight.
A friend passed me a Singtel Mesh Router which I understand it's a better router than the AC Plus router. If I changed to the Mesh Router, can the Airties 4920 works?

Thanks again.

SingTel AC Plus is very bad as the main router. SingTel Mesh Router is a plug and play upgrade to SingTel AC Plus. So you can safely change to the SingTel Mesh Router.

However your issues with Airties mesh may or may not be solved as the issue may be because of the Airties and not SingTel AC Plus. Singtel Airties and Askey are both lousy mesh solutions.

Speedtest result again -- close range wireless speed test, Acer Swift 3 laptop (11th gen Core i5), Intel AX201 wireless adapter, Singtel 1Gbs plan and Singtel Speedtest server. The Singtel Mesh Router is used as an AP behind virtual pfSense router (Intel J4105 mini PC running PVE 7.0).

The result is pretty decent for a low end AC router like Singtel Mesh Router.

Hi,
Thanks for your help. Wifi disconnection problem solved. And the speed seems to increased by 20 to 80 percent in different rooms with the Airties 4920.

Need to get some inputs of those using the following mesh solution. I think they are not good but I'd like to hear the real world experiences from the people here.

1) Singtel ONT or ONR -- Singtel Mesh Router --wireless -- Singtel Mesh Extender
2) Singtel ONR -- Singtel Mesh Extender (main node)-- wireless -- Singtel Mesh Extender (mesh node)

Not so sure if anyone here are using wired connection and not so sure if the following works or not.
1) Singtel ONT or ONR -- Singtel Mesh Router --wired -- Singtel Mesh Extender
2) Singtel ONR -- Singtel Mesh Extender (main node)
Singtel ONR -- Singtel Mesh Extender (mesh node)

If SingTel stopped providing security updates for SingTel Mesh Router on 30 November 2024, what happen after that? Will SingTel give new router?

They will most likely do so if you recontract. If not just buy your own router.

For SingTel ONR users it should matter less as SingTel Mesh Router will act as an AP.

For SingTel ONT user, I will anyway recommend to buy a better router than Singtel Mesh Router, and then use the SingTel Mesh Router as an AP.

Singtel Mesh Router is probably since early 2020. I got it free in Sept 2020 for my recontract (previously issued free router is Singtel AC Plus in Sept 2018).

Singtel Mesh Router is a basic router but I find it to be pretty stable and the coverage is not great but acceptable as a low end wireless router. Carousell resale price for brand new set is below S$50, Used set may be like S$15 to S$30.
Ref: https://www.carousell.sg/search/singtel mesh router?addRecent=true&canChangeKeyword=true&includeSuggestions=true&searchId=zn1CPM

It is also a great match for Singtel TV Box. For example, the following use case for Singtel ONR is not supported by many 3rd party router (not Asus, not TP-Link, not D-Link, only Netgear Orbi or Linksys E9450)

Singtel ONR -- Singtel Mesh Router (most 3rd party router will not work) -- Singtel TV Box

I’m using Singtel Mesh Router for some time and it is sufficient for my small home. But when my contract with singtel ends, I’m thinking to switch to cheaper M1 500MB no router plan. Can I just continue to use the Singtel Mesh Router with M1 ONT? (M1 only provide ONT, correct?) Currently my Singtel Mesh router is connected to Singtel ONR. Will it be just plug and play with M1 ONT or I will need new router or some new settings? (I’ll also cancel my singtel TV which is currently connected to Singtel ONR.) Thanks for helping.

No. SingTel Mesh Router (or previous SingTel issued router like SingTel AC Plus) has the VLAN profile built-in and can not be disabled. Therefore they do not work with any other ISP's ONT as the main router.

If you got budget constraints, just get Linksys EA7500v2 or EA8100 from Carousell at around S$10 to S$20. They work with all ISPs including M1.

Your SingTel Mesh Router can still work as an AP when connected to the main router.

Thanks for the info. So I can just use any old router with wifi switched off? (I have an old Dlink DIR 868L given from friend that I don’t use.)

M1 ont-> Old router with wifi off -> Singtel mesh router as AP

The Singtel mesh router will just automatically switched to AP mode when connected to old router, correct? Thanks.

Singtel ONR -- Singtel Mesh Extender (mesh node)
I have an ONR, and Singtel Mesh Router and poor coverage in my MBR. Backstory is here. https://forums.hardwarezone.com.sg/threads/singtel-onr-ap-issues.5778791/post-140653993

So I bought a Singtel Mesh Extender (V2) off carousell, and paired it with my Singtel Mesh router via WPS, as per the manual. After a brief wait, the SSID of the Mesh Extender changed to the SSID of my Singtel Mesh Router and it appears to have worked. This is because I could see the "Mesh" LED light up on the Singtel Mesh Router, and in the Network Topology section of the Singtel Mesh Router's admin portal, I can see that the Extender is connected to the Mesh Router.

So I tried to connect to see if wired backhaul could work with the Mesh Extender. So I plugged in power and an old Cat5E cable to the Extender to the MBR lan port, and switched it on. But it feels like I have 2 APs with the same SSID rather than a Mesh network. This is because with the Mesh Extender in the MBR, the Mesh LED is no longer lighted up on the Mesh Router, and the Mesh Extender disappeared from the Network Topology section of the Singtel Mesh Router's admin portal.

In the Singtel Mesh Extender's admin portal, in the Network Status section, I can see a graphic that the Extender is connected to Mesh Router as below.

But in the log section, there is a line that says "Backhaul Ethernet being used for uplink mode." See screenshot below.

So do I have Mesh? or 2 APs with the same SSID?
